| How much was your 1st health check bill? I took Libbie in on Monday to a 'good vet'. I compared mines with my brothers. . . . and talked to my breeder about it and they said that the price they charged was CRAZY!! -They gave her a quarter of a pill to help the cough (but she didn't have a cough until AFTER she started taking that one pill) -Put something up her nose so she won't catch anything from other dogs Then -Some med for her ear infection -And the normal health exam That cost me $115 ...must I say she did not recieve any shots AT ALL! Then I took her in for them to exam her poop.... that cost me $24 and the med cost $9.50 Does this sound right? I'm really starting to think that this vet is only MONEY HUNGRY!

| I have to say...I love my vet. I bought my babies the puppy pack. It was $150. It covers all shots. All visits for the first year. Worming medicine and heart worm meds. A bag of food and a box with all kinds of books on training etc. One of my dogs pushed passed me and ran out my door and got hit by a car at 9pm on a sunday night. I called the vet, he met me at his office. He did x-rays gave me meds. My bill was $70.00. He is great and very reasonable! Pet care should not break your bank!

| hmmm...my experience Im not sure what 'normal' is, I can tell you I called several vets in my area and their office visits ranged from 35-56 depending on the place, some did hgiher for sick visits, some did not.... thats just the visit, meds, shots and tests were separate. Then shots were like $35 or so for distemper, etc...and rabies was about $22 if i remember correctly. Neutering was in the $130-300 range depending on where I called and if you wanted the monitoring, pre op blood work, pain meds ,etc.(and SPCA here is 45$). The vet we have ann appt with next weekend is $102 for their annual exam or puppy exam, includes shots, heartworm test, fecal test (heartworm test only after one year). So I wont get the heartworm test but will add rabies shot...so my total will still be about $100, and its his last set of shots...so no more unless he get sick until next year. Id say for an office visit and just exam it may be a bit high....I dont think seeing what I found when I called around.

| my vet charges $39.95 for the new patient / puppy wellness exam. that just covers the exam. had a puppy gotten the pill, meds and what i assume was a bordetella vac, it would probably have been around $150 as well ... i think your price was reasonable

| Thanks for you replies. I was starting to think that I was getting JIPPED off. ahaha. I've heard of some vet places that charge a lot for no reason just because they want money. So I just have to make sure I wasn't....still debating if I should switch to another vet or just switch to a diffren Doctor..we'll see!

| Mine was around that much as well. They charge $68 for the check-up portion and vaccines, medications, etc are extra. It doesn't help to live in NJ and NY!

| We just paid around $90 for Marley's wellness exam. He had his first round of shots, heartworm/tapeworm pill, Frontline treatment for his fleas, and the exam. They also gave us a whole bag ( like 6 pounds or something ) of a dogfood they use (its Purina Wellness I think...I use Blue Buffalo and she said if I can afford that its ONE of the best in the stores right now). She took her time, explained everything - they were great. I will totally go there for the rest of his care. I was kind of just calling the vets in the area trying to find one with an appointment available today because of Marley's health concerns. I lucked out! Anyone in San Antonio - go to Dr. Cruz at St. Francis of Asisi Veterinary Medical Center! She's awesome. Heidi |

| Free. Really. My vet doesn't charge for a very good and thorough first well-puppy visit. He spends quite a while with the puppy checking everything out. He just asks that you allow him to continue providing heath care, shots, etc. for your puppy as he/she grows. Her second visit for shots was $30 including the exam, shots, dewormer medication.
