| Couple of Food Questions Hello all, some of you are so knowledgeable on foods I thought I would ask a couple quick questions. I have recently attempted a food change for my Yorks. I have a couple of picky ones that were previously on raw, but one continued to get bacterial infections on NV (despite it being frozen, then chilled and kept in a plastic tupperware container in the fridge for 1 day). They would not touch the other raw products. Can't remember the name of the green mushy stuff, but they were completely against it. My others were eating about a 3-4 star dry food. It was a bit commercial and in my opinion contained too much grain, and a couple lost a bit of weight and decided to be skinnies. SO off to the drawing board. I hoped to switch all of mine to the same food regardless. Started with Innova Evo, extremely pleased with the protein content but about half of my furbutts could not handle the richness of the food, and I left them on it for approximately 3 weeks with no improvement, so I knew that was a loss. Then I tried NV dry Prairie, wouldn't touch it. Maybe after the Evo it was a dissapointment. The lady at the food store was by the this time calling me by name every time I came back in with a disgruntled look on my face. Ah these picky Yorkies. Finally I chose to try Solid Gold Barking at the Moon. TA-DA! They all dug in and ate like there was no tomorrow, and no tummy issues to date. Still the same amount of protein but in a different form, concentrating more on fish. The breath is not so good, no more of those Yorkie kisses for me, ick, but nevertheless I am happy with the results. They have been on this food for approximately 2 weeks now. Last week I noticed that Barking at the Moon was labeled "Adult Maintenence." A couple of my Yorks are still puppies. I went back to the food store and added a mixture of the Solid Gold Puppy Lamb formula into the Moon, but the bites are a bit bigger than the Moon and they seemed to have a hard time chewing the pieces, and would also pick out the Moon pieces and leave the Puppy Lamb bites in the bowl. Here are my questions. First and foremost, any personal experiences with Solid Gold and what have been the results short and long term? Second, do my puppies really need a "Puppy" formula, considering the Barking at the Moon has something like 40% protein and is a "6 star" food according to the ratings? Would this formula be substantial for them as they are still growing? I should also mention that for my pickiest eaters and skinnies I am sneaking in a shared can of the 95% Beef Innova Evo canned food. When I mix the canned into the Solid Gold dry, no tummy issues have presented with them either, and each of my tiny bugs have put on between 1/4 and 1/2 of a pound in only a few short weeks. SO I know this protein spike is working well for them, just need to confirm that these foods are good and if I should indeed be making sure my puppies are getting a specified "puppy" formula. Appreciate responses. |

YT 3000 Club Member | solid gold and the innova are both good foods, how old are your fur butts, you can change around ten months, chester does very well on solid gold, he eats the wee bits which is small but adult food, and the puppy food is bigger. I would ask your vet to see how the high protein works with the younger ones, I have never fed the high protein, it seems to high for a regular dog that is not really active in my case. |

| How old are the puppies? In general, I would say no, it is not okay to give adult food to pups but if they are close to fully grown or a bit older, you might get away with it.
