| What kind of food? hi everybody! i just registered today to this forum. i got milo from a breeder 1 1/2 months ago. he is a 15 month old yorkie and i feed him the eukanuba brand dry food. he eats it only a little most of the time. i want to switch to another brand. what would you recommend? i prefer dry food though. thanks in advance. the breeder used to feed him the canned eukanuba chicken & rice. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Hi welcome to YT! Personally I love wellness brand food. I feed the small breed formula to my yorkie. She has always been on dry food. most of hte time with other types she would pick at it, now with the small breed food she will sit there an eat her whole meal at one sitting. another plus about wellness is that it is an excellent food that is sold at petco so its convenient to get. other foods: Merricks Innova Solid Gold (also sold at petco and petsmart)

| Thank you all for your replies. We went to Petsmart this morning for his first obedience training. I asked the trainer what brand of food she will recommend and she told me the Blue Buffalo Small Breed. So I bought 1 small bag and will try it today. What do you guys think about this product? |

| Hello and WELCOME aboard! I hope you like it hre as much as we all do, I expect you will! It's hard for me to recommend a brand because we live in different countries, but I guess it depends on what you want to achieve with the food. I mean, there are a LOT of questions to ask yourself. Such as does your Yorkie get a lot of exercise? If so, you may want a food with a high protein percentage. Or is he a stud dog? May need more nutrients nad virtamins. If he's a pet how are his 'hyper levels'? If he's a bit too jumpy/energetic/hyper you may need to switch to a food with a low protein percentage. If he's a show dog you'll need something with ingredients to help the coat growth and shine. It may be that you just need a good food for a pet with no allergies/difficulties. That's just a few! lol Then there's what level of quality you'd like him to be on. For instance, I only feed myself organic meat and vegetables so I want my dogs to have a similar diet. An organic, human grade dog food is crucial to me. I am about to move my girls onto Orijen dog food. You can get that in the States nad Canada. And now England! WOO!!! lol A LOT of the big name brands (such as Pedigree) only have a good name because they sponsor a lot of big events (such as Crufts), it's not because they're actually good foods. In fact, Pedigree would be one of the last brands I'd ever feed my girls! lol So you see there's loads to it, too many options probably! lol The best thing to do is get on Google and research the brands you're considering. Hope this has helped a little and not just made the decision harder! lol If you give us some idea of what you need to the food to do then it'd be easier to recommend a brand.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Good Luck! Nolee has always been a very picky eater. I am now homecooking for him, but keep trying other brands. I will have to try Blue Buffalo. Someone else here recommended it.

| Hi, Welcome to YorkieTalk!!!!! I feed Mandie "Canidae" wet dog food in the morning and then she has Ultra dry dog food. I like the wet dog food b/c it is all natural, no by products. The breeder was feeding her mighty dog and it was making her sick, so since I have had her canidae is what we have been giving her. We get it at a Feed and Supply store in our town. The dry dog food I just found b/c she wasnt eating anything for a while and this is really small bites, which is easy for her to chew.

| I feed Tucker Blue Buffalo and he loves it, he has never got a tummy upset or anything on it. When i switched mine to blue buffalo from the brand the breeder was feeding him i would mix it in alittle stronger everytime. But, that only lasted a day or two when i relized that he was picking out the blue buffalo and leaving the breeders brand in the bowl and i would have to throw it out because he would not eat it!! The have a site that tells all about the food, i did alot of research before switching to this brand! Blue Buffalo — Discover the Best Dog Food and Cat Foods with our Pet Food Comparison Tools Here is the link i hope it helps in your decision, I would recommend to do alot of research and try to find a food that is by-product free! That is some really nasty stuff! Hope this helps! Pam |

| Evo & Innova Barley & Mischa loves Evo and it comes in small bites. I got them Innova recently. It's small breed comes in very small bite sized pieces. I thought they'd like it better, but Barley doesn't. He'll eat it, but not as happily as he ate the Evo. Mischa is just a piggy so she's happy for anything. I like these two brands because they have all natural ingredients in them. Things you want to stay away from are: By-products, meal (like meat or bone meal);filers (corn gluten meal, wheat gluten, egg product meal); carb overload (refined flours, wheat, brewer's rice)rocessed fruits and vegetables (dehydrated potatoes, tomato pumice, alfalfa meal); animal fat, poultry fat, vegtable oil; synthetic preservatives (BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin), coloring (caramel color, FD&C colors). Things to look for: Named meat or fish; concentrated named meat proteins (like chicken meal, lamb meal, etc); whole grains and starches (brown rice, barley, sweet potatoes); fruits and vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, apples, etc); Quality named fats (chicken fat, lamb fat sunflower oil, etc); Natural preservatives (vitamin E, mixed tocopherols), Antioxidants (Vitamin A, C and E) & Chelated minerals (manganese proteinate, iron proteinate). I searched the ingredient listings of a lot of dog foods until I found Evo and Innova. Good luck.
