| red veins in eyes? maybe i'm just being a paranoid and overprotective parent, but i noticed that my newly adopted puppy sort of has red veins in the white of his eyes. he's 11 weeks old and a little over 2 lbs. i'm not sure if this is normal, but do any of your yorkies have this as well? is this a health issue? there is no gunk that's oozing from his eyes. i can just see red veins in his eyes. i guess i'm just worried because my 10 month old yorkie doesn't have it and i'm comparing the two. i'm hoping it's because he's still a young pup and is still growing??? i don't know. any insight would be appreciated.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This was Joey's major symptom when he had cornea ulceration; we caught it early. It sounds like something could be irritating the eyes. Remember don't use human hair products on the topknot, or around face. Sometimes, just scratching the hair out of their eyes can cause a problem. However, Joey just had a problem with one eye, if it's both eyes, it could be allergies. I see you are in California, and things are probably budding up pretty good now, which causes allergies.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | A cornea ulceration is a scratch on the cornea. I hope I didn't scare you, it was more than just red veins, more like lots of red veins, and it looked different from the other eye. The vet didn't know what caused it. I was growing out the nose bridge hair to meet the topknot hair, and I sprayed some hair spray on a small toothbrush, and used this to smooth the hairs on the forehead. Some of the hairs may have come down, and with the hairspray on them may have irritated the eye. The vet said that some dogs get it by rubbing their faces on the carpet too hard, and even some scratch the cornea with their paws. If this affects both eyes, I would think allergies are more the likely answer.

i guess the most important thing is that he has no trouble seeing so he should be fine. i mean, i can't take him to the vet everytime i get paranoid, otherwise i'd be broke right?!

| my prince had that in one eye.. it looked like a popped blood vessel or somethin and u could only see it if he looked to the left, i brought it up at one of his vet visits and the dr said that it could be from him scratching his eyes, his hair irritating his eyes, etc. butr more likely from heat. yep, he said that if i have the heater on too close to him or for long periods of time then it could cause this. since then i lowered his heater and keep it across the room & it all cleared up! |
