| Vet Prices I know that vet fees differ depending on where you live but just wanted to see what others have paid for a basic puppy wellness exam, fecal exam and puppy vaccinations. Here is what I paid (I live in PA): Puppy exam: $39.50 Parasite screen: $27.85 Parasite Elimination (routine precaution): $30.35 Bordetella: $14.70 Lyme vaccine: $23.90 Canine Distemper: $19.00 Total: $155.30 This was for an exam and 3rd round of shots for a 14 week old puppy. Do these prices sound normal or should I shop around? I haven't had a puppy in 7 years and can't remember how much it cost me back then! Also, if anyone buys heartworm meds online - where do you find the best prices and how does that work if you need an RX? Thanks!

| that sounds really close to my vets prices (although mine do not get lyme or bordetella) when i took bree in for her last puppy shot, she was a "new patient" and her fees were about: puppy exam: $39.99 HDPP vac: ~ $33 fecal: ~ $30 her rabies will be $17.00 we only pay the puppy exam fee once and there is never an office visit fee if the dog is coming in for shots, spay/neuter/etc oooh and i live in far north dallas (my vet is in frisco, tx) as far as heartworm goes, i always check out online prices because my vet will match any advertised price...but if you do order online, you will need to have had the heartworm test because they will call and verify with your vet that it was done before sending heartworm meds...i have used 1800petmeds before and it was fine HTH

| They may be a bit pricey on the shots and fecal but it looks about normal. Any reason why your pup was giving the lymes vaccine? Were those all given in one day?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | The shots seem expensive to me. In my area, an office call of any kind is $47-52 - just to walk in the door - is that more than most pay? I get my guys' shots at our local Humane Ass'n. I get their heartworms pills here, without a prescription: Heartworm Medicine for Dogs & Cats. Save $$$ Heartworm Medication

That's cheaper than my vet in NY Ann. I pay, to walk in the door, $65.00, everything else is ala-cart That was last year, I am sure his prices went up since then. I'll find out in May for Bud's yearly. I do remember the heart worm test being $90.00 and the fecal being $28.00, I went blank after that. Bill came to $297.00 with shots including Rabie, Lyme, and the three in one. It was $20.00 cheaper than the year before for some reason. I was happy it was under $300.00. Thank heavens he's healthy!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Got a kick out of that...I often feel this way at the vet's office.

Now I'm shocked Yep, that's the highest price for anything else done. That's why it's buried in my mind. This vet is more expensive than my last one, however, the last one did not pick up a parasite that made Buddy sick for four months, this one did on the first visit. That's why I stay.

| The Lyme vaccine is routine at my vet office, as is Bordetella. Is it necessary? That one was pretty expensive and she is due to get the follow-up (along with her rabies) in 3 weeks. Should I not have it done when we add future pups to our family? Yes, they were all given in one day (two injections and one nasal).

That is really too many vaccines in one day. A lot of vets do it but if there is a reaction, what one did the dog react to? It is also a lot for their immune system to deal with.

| (Quote from Ellie May) That's entirely up to you but there are "very few" areas in the US where the lymes vaccine should be considered, especially for a mostly inside dog. That is really too many vaccines in one day. A lot of vets do it but if there is a reaction, what one did the dog react to? It is also a lot for their immune system to deal with. (end quote) Thanks for the info. She did push the rabies to the next visit for that exact reason but I see how that can still be too many. I'm going to research the lyme vaccine now too...

Ellie May is right. Last year was the very first time Buddy reacted to the shots. He has always been given them all at once and never a reaction. I was so scared for him. I won't let that happen again. It took two whole days for him to be himself. I hope the vet won't charge me another $65.00 to come back because I want to split the shots up. We'll see. He has to have the Lymes in our area. We are infested with deer and he walks in the grass to potty. They walk around our developement like dogs. My neighbor's dog got Lymnes disease two years ago and was very sick.
