| Don't remember exactly but it needs to be started before 6 months. If I was to do it over, I'd probably start at 4 or 5 months.

| my two oldest started late (grrrrrr another reason why i was so unhappy with my last vet lol) ... i want to say they were about 8 or 9 months old? thank goodness their heartworm tests came out negative and i got them on - year round - right after my youngest, bree, was started on heartworm at about 16 weeks...my vet wanted her to get to a solid 2 lbs and start right away

| Juicy was around 4 months old when she started. The vet waited until she was 3lbs.

| I'm not trying to hijack the thread but I noticed a couple people said their vets wanted a certain weight before starting the heartworm meds. Is it better to go by weight first or age?

| In the case of Interceptor, it is for dogs 2-10 pounds, so a one pound dog really can't have it. So you'd have to go by weight first...

| Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get your dog to actually take the pill? My puppy just sniffs it, pushes it around with her nose, and then turns her back to it.
