| Does anyone know anything about "Milk Thistle"? Hello Everyone!! I'm so very frustrated and upset that my 2 Yr old (May 16th is her b-day)Yorkie may have a liver disease. After 2 Yrs of she'll grow out of this talk from a former Vet nothing has changed. I recently moved and found a new Vet. This vet took the time to hear me out instead of dismissing me like some parnoid pet lover. Why do vets get frustrated when you tell them your findings?? My new vet simply took a blood & urine test and discovered something wasn't right. I went in telling the Dr. I believe my dog has a liver shunt because of a thread on this very site & he listened. I've never had a dog before and had no idea that I would feel this way. She is my heart. Dogs are not just a man's best friend. She is the sweetest thing in the world, I don't regret getting her, although her illness has become frustrating and expensive. I will gladly work the overtime to pay for her happiness and health. Does anyone know anything about Milk Thistle?? I found this on another site. It's suppose to be a herbal medication for liver cleansing on dogs. Sorry that this all over the place but I guess these are my emotions right now, just all over the place. Heartbroken, (Lola) Honey's Mom |

| Denamarin My Vet gave my girls Denamarin for their liver after they had been poisoned. Denamarin contains Silybin which comes from Milk thistle. Below is some info I copied about Denamarin. Silybin is the most active part of an extract from milk thistle known as silymarin. Silybin/silymarin has been shown to support liver function by acting as an antioxidant. Silybin also stimulates the flow of bile through the liver to aid in the digestion and absorption of nutrients from your pet's diet. Silybin also helps with liver cell regeneration and may enhance levels of glutathione, the liver's major “detoxifying” agent.

| Lady has been getting milk thistle for almost ten years to protect her liver from her seizure medication. It really is great stuff. If your Yorkie has liver disease, though, you need find out first. She needs to get a bile acids test. It's a very easy and inexpensive test that all Yorkies should have anyway. Depending on the results, you would then decide if milk thistle is appropriate for her. Here is a great link about milk thistle: MILK THISTLE |
