| HELP!! Fatty, fatty two by four! Obviously exercise is A #!! Unfortunately I have a tubby freeze baby that won't even go down the block if it's below 40 degrees even with a warm sweater on. I have tried the treadmill, but he puts the breaks on. I have both the boys on free feed, Bogie needs to lose 1-2 lbs and is a bigger eater than Woody who is a mych lighter eater (a snack of upto 10-15 tops usually 5-10 pieces of diet food probably 5-6 times a day) and between the two of them they share 1 bowl a day which is less than one what is recommended for one dog per day. Part of the issue is that my grand daughter has been feeding him as well over the last year, but we now have that under control. I have thought about taking him 'swimming' in the bath tub to see if I can get him additional exercise on a daily basis other than playing. It will be nice this weekend and I can walk him again, but these winters are just not doing his tubby butt well. Any suggestions??? I was looking at a check up report card I found from 2004 and he was 5.5# and marked between normal and overweight. I weighted myself and then again with him about a month ago and he's almost 10# OMG!!! I know it's harder to take off than to put on, I am open to ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!

I was suggested by a few to start on adult food. With summer now I think my baby is loving the outdoors. He was only inside as he was too small to let out in the winter. Now he loves to run in the backyard and play with the other doggies. He is a tubby so he runs a little slower. I'm going to try the adult food but still have 1/2 a bad of food to go so that won't be for another while. Let me know if you also get any other good suggestions.

| How much is in the bowl? You should be feeding each dog based upon their ideal weight rather than their current weight. Also, it is worth mentioning that dog food bags ALWAYS recommend more food than the animal should really be getting. The more you feed, the more they sell, so it makes sense that their numbers are larger than they should be! Also be aware just how many calories are in most dog treats. Biscuits are VERY high in calories, so if he is getting any biscuit-type treats at all, you need to compensate by feeding less. Healthy treats like carrots are a great alternative, or small training-type treats that have many fewer calories per treat than dog biscuits. I feed my girl (who is a lean, athletic 11lber) 1/3 cup in the morning and 1/4 cup in the evening. She gets several small training-size treats each day outside of that. Also-- I know people never want to hear this, but moving from free feedings to separate, timed feedings is the only real way to make sure that one dog is not getting more food than it should be getting. Also, use measuring cups-- don't just fill up a bowl! Our eyes always play tricks on us when we try to go by appearance.

Right!! Feed amount for their ideal weight...not current weight. Carrots for snacks versus "treats".....schedule feeding times and stop free feeding. Lola was a chunky monkey but switched her to carrots vs treats and she lost the weight she needed to | |
