| Name of that Anesthesia Test Ok - so we recently found out that Trooper (most likely) is Cryphto which means his testes never decended and may need to be neutered. He had liver shunt surgery last July and I'm really nervous about him going under again. When I had Deegan neutered I had that anesthesia test done on him to see if he could handle it/wasn't allergic to it, and want Trooper to have it also but I can't remember what it's called. Anyone know what I'm talking about??

| I googled it and found it myself... It's a Pre-Anesthetic Blood Test or Pre-Op Blood Profile. The test is to check for an adequate blood cell count and also checks for signs of possible problems in the kidneys and liver that may not be evident in a physical examination. I think this test is imperative because it identifies life threatening complications and could predict whether the surgery should be cancelled or whether it's safe to proceed. I will always get this test regardless of cost. Also, 2 anesthesias that you should check to see if your vet uses are Isoflorane or Sevoflorane... these are the safest anesthesias for these little guys.

| No problem, that's what we're all here for - to learn from one another! Glad I could help out. PS - I'm so very sorry to hear that you lost a baby. Vets very rarely share this info and I don't know why??? There's a ton of info out there that's not shared with you unless you ask about it. If you don't ask, they don't tell. Of course that goes for human doctor's too - my family learned that the hard way when mom was sick with cancer. She didn't make it, but if we had known some of the things to ask, maybe she would have. Just goes to show you that knowledge is power & you are your own (and your pets) biggest advocate! Good luck in the future.

| It's a blood panel and CBC. Sadly no test is offered that will tell you if an allergic reaction will occur...

From my research on anesthetic reactions: The 1st time going under anesthesia is the most risky. After that, risk of reaction goes down dramatically. Since, your Trooper has already been under once, I think you/he will be just fine. It appears he's not sensitive to it and this time he will be 100% healthy, right?
