| Got Joey's Protein C results I got a message from vet today regarding Joey's Protein C analysis. We played phone tag for awhile and he left a voice mail which I accidentally deleted so it's driving me nuts cuz now I can't reach him til tomorrow. I think he said Joey's result was 74% (there's that no. 74 again) of normal. He said he would lean towards MVD rather than a shunt but he still wants Joey to have the sonogram next week. Does this result make sense? I'll know more tomorrow when I speak to him.

| Less than 70% is indicative of a shunt so I can understand why he wants to do more testing if Joey's was 74%. Comparative Coagulation -- NYS Animal Health Diagnostic Center |

| But because he was over 70%, I was optimistic. Are you thinking because it's so close to 70. Do you know the spread? Is a normal dog 100? I know I have to talk to the vet in the am, but I am so unable to sleep right now, so mad I missed his call.

| That is just close to the cut-off, so the safe thing to do is more testing. However, ultrasound is estimated to be between 60-80% accurate, so a negative u/s does not mean too much... I forgot, are the pre meal bile acids high? Or is this the pup that only had one sample taken?

| I found your thread I still don't know the whole deal about what the results mean from a Protein test. I will wait for you to get the exact % from the Vet. I don't know how far you are from Cornell, but if you could go their to see the Specialist, I would do that. They are just very knowledgable and experienced, and they aren't going to do tests that aren't needed and you won't be spending a lot of money either. I will be looking for your updates soon |

It is also possible to have high bile acids with no shunt or MVD...
