♥ Mama's Boy ♥ Donating Member | Neutered?? Please help!! I have posted a thread in the health topic but I alway wanted to post on here to, Please help me!! Tobie is getting neutered on Friday, and I just talked to the vet because I am really worried about the anesthesia, I have been reading on here about how someone has taken their dog to get neutered and was very sick because of the anestheia, but the vet will do all blood work and make sure everything is fine before. But they told me that they usually keep the dogs overnight for observation, however no one is there at night so he will be all alone! I have never spent one night away from him, should I let him stay there overnight or pick him up afterwards? What would you do? Please help I am so worried!! |

| I wouldnt be worried with the neuter sx at all, just make sure you get blood work done before and he is healthy for sx. I would for SURE take him home that day!! Thats crazy that they want to keep him after just a neuter sx. I would just make sure I was home with him after he is done and be home with him the next day. When both my males were neutered they will only there until 8am to about 5pm then I picked them up, I made sure I had nothing to do that day and the next so I can take care of them. Peanut was really out of it the night after sx, he wouldnt sleep or anything, the next day he just layed around the house. My other yorkie pigpen when he came home from sx he was out of it but not as bad as peanut he just slept and then next day he acted like nothing ever happend!!! Different dogs take it differently, you never know how they will react but its better to be there for them!! I would never ever ever leave my baby there after a neuter esp a neuter its the common sx vets do, I am confused why they want your baby to stay esp no one will be there!!! I would definetly pick him up after he is done and dont worry everything will go fine you might just have to baby him, but thats easy to do

| Its so hard to say how your furbaby will react after the sx, but I put both my boys in the bed with me after they had sx. I just gave him there pain meds like 10 mins before we went to bed so they would be more relaxed. ( make sure you get pain meds and antibiotics to go home) Peanut was really uncomfortable that night he kept getting up and down in the bed and couldnt get comfy, but I just stayed up with him and gave him love and snuggled and pet him and that seemed to help him a lot. So I would put him in the bed with you. Just give him his pain meds like 10 mins before you go to bed and depends on how he is just be there with him. Dont be stressed or worried if he starts to act crazy, peanut was acting really strange and it worried me, but it was al normal. Oh it also helps when you bring him home you can set him over a heating pad, or at night when he sleeps, just put a blanket on top and set it on low. He might not want to eat either, peanut didnt, when you bring him home after his sx dont give him water or food for at least an hour, well you can give him water but dont let him guzzle it just sips, due to the anasethia he will throw up if he has to much water. And what I did with peanut is I just got some really yummy wet dog food and feed him that, just when he had his sx Let me know if you have any questions!!!! Even after you bring him home, I am always on this thing

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I've had all 5 of my 6 males neutered with not so much as a fever. 3 cats and 2 pups. My 6 mo old is being done next month. I've never had blood work prior either. I've been blessed with healthy pets. My vet is a doll, and the only problem I had, was Aiden pulled all his stapless out the night after, while we were all in the hospital with my neice. They had to re- staple him up, but never charged me a dime. LITTLE BRAT..but I was worried until I got the call that they were out of sx and stable. I guess because even if something were to go wrong or happen ,what can I do? It's not up to me. I love my guys more than I ever thought possible, but some things are just out of our controll. I'll keep you little man in my thoughts and prayers Friday and please keep us posted. He'll be fine.

| Try not to worry. If you read the whole thread about Toby and his reaction to anesthesia, you'll see that he didn't have pre op bloodwork done and he may have a liver shunt. The liver has to function properly to metabolize the anesthesia. Since you plan on getting pre op bloodwork done, he'll be fine. What time will your vet do the surgery? Most neuters can come home the same day, but if your vet doesn't do his surgeries until the afternoon, he may keep them overnight as a precaution. If it were me, I would make sure the surgery was scheduled for the morning so he could come home that night. |

| My little man was neutered yesterday and I was more upset than he was. We dropped him off at 8 and had the bloodwork done. He also had two baby canines removed. I was VERY worried about the anethesthesia too. They used Isofluorine. The doctor called at 11 and said he was doing great. We picked him up at 3:00 and brought him back home. He was groggy but otherwise seemed ok. He snuggled in bed with us and slept with us the whole night. I would not leave mine overnight. Like the person said before, ask to have the procedure done in the morning even if it means rescheduling so you can watch him overnight. Good luck and let us know how it went. |

♥ Mama's Boy ♥ Donating Member | I didn't understand why they wanted to keep him over night when no one was going to be there. I just needed some advice on what to do.Thank you all for your help and encouragement it mean so much to me. He will be coming home afterwards, and I will keep everyone posted on how he is doing. Tobie is the first baby I have ever owned, besides a family dog, but my mom took care of everything that needed to be done. I love Tobie so much just like he is my own child, and I know that you all understand. Thank you so much everyone of you. |

| Hi there...Pasquale is also getting neutered on Friday...so you are not alone in your worries. We'll be nervous nellies together!! My vet said i could take Pasquale home that day....and i plan on it. I would too if i were you...at least you'll have an eye on him...and just in case anything happens you can take him to an emergency clinic. I dont understand the whole concept of leaving them all alone at nite...i mean...you wouldnt leave a child alone ....right? Hope to see news from you that everything went ok.
