| Anyone ever heard of Diamond Puppy Food? I just got my baby on February 13, 2009 and the breeder gave me a small bag of food that my puppy had been eating. It was called Diamond Puppy Food. Has anyone ever heard of it and is this a good puppy food? Also any suggestions on treats to feed him would be helpful. |

| I would NEVER EVER knowingly feed any food produced at a Diamond Dog Food Plant. Even foods that are sold under a different label. I used to feed my Boxer a Diamond food many years ago. Dogs got sick and started dying from eating the food. The company was aware that there was a problem LONG before they did a recall and not only that the way they treated their dealers who had tainted food was horrendous. The local feed store that I purchased my horse and dog food from (at the time) called me and warned me about the problems with the food. Fortunately I was not feeding one of the varieties that was recalled, but that ended my relationship with the Diamond Dog Food Company. I have no confidence in their willingness to protect the animals that they are producting food for. |

| Diamond is a very inexpensive food, they sell it at our local feed store. Yorkies eat so little It is worth it to spend a little more on a good quality food. I would not give my little one Diamond. Just be sure and slowly wean him to the new food. |

| The breeder had mine on Diamond when I first got her as well. She seemed to grow and did just fine on it, however one look at the ingredients and I wasn't pleased. I also know Diamond had a huge recall a few years ago. I'd recommend switching! |

You can check out Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble for some ideas. I personally wouldn't choose a food lower than a 3 star...but i'd stick with atleat a 4. However, you'll just have to try different options and determine what food works best for your pup. | |

| I just bought Cesar Millans Dog Whisperer food a few days ago, and he seems to love it! I'm fairly sure I'm going to be sticking with this food (for a while anyways) after trying many others.

| I had a LOT of issues with dog food, especially with one of my pups. We FINALLY found one they both LOVE and I'm so happy with it. Its called Merrick but its not available in the big pet store chains, only smaller independant stores. You can check out their site for retailers near you. We almost put them on Innova, which is supposed to be top of the line as well, i just liked the Merrick line b/c you can switch up the flavors without any tummy issues. Good luck!!! |

| I had never heard of Diamond dog food back in '98 when I had started feeding that to my shihtzu. She was 3-5 yrs old at the time and we had picked up the largest bag based on recommendation by the shop owner. She had come to us with a dull grey-black and white coat. That same shop owner had shaved our girl down to her skin--literally. That was her idea of a short summer cut. As her hair grew back while being on this food, there was a noticeable shine to her white and her previously grey hairs became a more vibrant black. Her white had a shiny sheen to it as well. It could have been the work of the sun too, who knows. Her previous owners fed her mainly table scraps for the 6 or so months they had her. The owners before them, I can't be sure. After her bag of Diamond dog food was finished, I was unable to find it in the usual pet food stores and didn't care to go back to that woman who shaved ALL of her hair off. Well, later on, when I went by, that warehouse type setup was no longer anyway. I had moved on to IAMS because they had great marketing. There wasn't a day that went by when they didn't have a TV ad up. She was fed Iams for maybe 2 yrs when I came upon all the Iam-hate websites and read up on the bad publicity. So, I figured Science Diet seemed safe. It was in most, if not all, vet clinics, right? Well, it seems they're not good enough now either. But she was on SD for the rest of her life except for the brief period when we had gone through the raw then the cooking-of-the-raw diet. While on Iams and SD and even on the raw/cooked, her hair never had the same shine, but never got to the same "dull grey" either but she did develop skin allergies later on in her life . My yorkie was started on locally packed ground chicken & bones raw plus Eukaneba kibble diet by her breeder. I had started off continuing the same raw feed but later had to heat it up for her as she didn't seem to take to raw too well. Then she went on to Innova EVO (she was very gassy on that) and then Petcurean's now! Turkey & Duck for puppies (until they switched the formula to Turkey, Duck & Salmon for puppies--she became more itchy and it's not because she's allergic to salmon as that's what she's always gotten for treats). So now she's on Orijen 6-fish and Natural Balance Duck & Potato and is doing well enough. But I do think she did best overall when she was on Petcurean's Turkey & Duck for puppies. | I have not heard of Diamond either. The trick is to f ind out what your little puppy likes to eat the best when looking at a higher quality food. The breeder had Suzi on Purina which is NOT a good food either so I switched/ first to Science diet then found out that was a low quality food too. Then I went to A food that is By Nature. It rated a 4 , However they also make canned foods which are all the way to a 6, so I supplement her diet with the kibble and canned. Suzi loves the canned , but it is over $2.00 for one can. It is protein rich and very healthy. I leave her kibble out all the time with fresh water, then feed her the canned once a day too. Suzi is 11 months old and is in perfect condition. When switching, always do it slowly to advoid stomach upset.
