| Hello new..need help! Hi everyone, I am new to the site!! and wow..you guys have no idea of how helpful this site has been for me and my little 3 month old Pizuki. I just got Pizuki last week, but I already grown to love her so much. We went to the vet last Tuesday and she is very healthy, yet the vet told me to start giving her can food, he recommended eukanuba for puppies. I am feeding her Royal Cannin 33 for puppies( that’s what the breeder was feeding her previously) so he said for me to mixed 50/50. So, there I went to buy the eukanuba even thought I knew is was too early to be changing her food. (Info which I read here) The first day..I didn’t follow the 50/50 recommendation and I just mix a little of the new can food to the dry to see her reaction….She love it!! and eat it like there was no tomorrow, is not that she didn’t like her dry food before, she is one healthy eater..always hungry, her stools for that day were normal just a lighter color than before. Yet, the next day my boyfriend told me that he had felt a rumbling in her tummy during the night..( yes! she sleeps with us) since I wasn’t sure if it was the new food, I gave it to her again, but this time just a little more than the previous day and by the afternoon I felt not only the rumbling but some stinky gases too.. my poor baby!!! I decided to stop mixing the eukanuba and she had the dry food by itself …only problem now she won’t eat her dry food like she used too, I had to hand feed her…I already call the vet I’m waiting for him to call me back... let see what he says now . So if anyone can help here are my questions, should I buy her another brand of can food so I can mixed it with her dry one, if so which one? or should I just wait a while and keep feeding her the dry…I just want her to eat and enjoy it like before. Thank You. |

| it sounds like your baby really likes the wet the best. I wonder why the vet told you to start feeding her something else, i know that vets will recommend a food over the other because of endorsements, not because the food is better than the other. The switch in her diet is what is making her tummy upset. If you do decide to switch her diet, i would mix much less then 50/50, sometimes even that is too much for their sensitive stomachs to handle. I personally think the dry is better, canned can make the stool too loose, and puppies often get diarrhea. Many people will tell you different kinds of dog food to feed your dog, but i would try different kinds suggested, SLOWLY and see what kind your puppy likes best. Best luck to you and your puppy, and ask your vet why he suggested the eukanuba over the Royal Cannin. |

| My vet recommended adding just a teaspoon of moist food with the dry to give it a little more flavor. I spoon out enough to last a few days and freeze the other teaspoon portions. There are no tummy upsets when using such a small amount. |

| Try chicken and rice I had really good luck cooking my puppy some boiled chicken and mixing it with rice. Sometimes they like the "real food" and it upsets their stomachs less. |

| Thanks everyone for your inputs … my vet just call me back and said to stop giving her the can food, and exactly he recommended it just to add some moist to her dry food, not as a change of food…he told me to change to another brand of wet food …”keep trying until you find something that agrees with her” he said..I guess I would have to do that. I just regret introducing her to the wet food and the whole mixing experience, she was doing so well with just the dry! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | First, WELCOME ! Eukanuba (as well as Royal Canin) contains fillers and allergens, so the ingredients may have been irritating to your baby's system. So, she might do better on a more premium type of canned. You don't have to feed canned, but it is a "fresher" version of meat than dry, and it adds moisture to the diet - which is a plus. Do you get your food at Petsmart/Petco? If so, then I'd probably recommend a brand called Wellness. Those stores don't carry the best foods, but Wellness is the best one they have, in my opinion. Good luck w/ your new baby!

YT 3000 Club Member | I agree wellness would be the best choice at petsmart or something, natural balance is pretty good it is listed in the whole dog journal as well as the wellness. Nat balance tests every batch of wet and dry food for toxins |

| Welcome to YT! :wavey" I would recommend reading up on dog food & understanding what fillers are & the things they are highly allergic to - like corn. There is a lot of good info on food right here in the Health & Diet section. Also this is an informative website The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare?
