| On prey diet, hasn't eaten much for 2 days I know that on the prey diet the dogs will "cleanse" their systems with not eating for a day, but how long does it last? Isla hasn't eaten for two days (except for a quarter size of cxn liver today, the same size tripe yesterday, and a couple bite sizes of boneless/skinless pork yesterday). I know it's something, but it doesn't seem like enough to sustain her. Also, since everyone is concerned with Yorkie's blood sugar dropping easily, I was wondering if that would be a concern or if that doesn't happen on the prey diet. I've tried to feed her rmb yesterday and today and she just licks at it. Then she wants in the house. Any thoughts?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Vulnerability to hypoglyc. would really be dog dependent, not really diet dependent - it could happen on any diet if the dog is prone. As you stated, many dogs will self-fast on prey model. Since you're still describing an appetite (kind of?), I don't know if I'd be too worried yet. If, however, poos are weird, she vomits at all, her appetite continues to be low, if her energy is lower overall -- then I'd be worrying and I'd probably take her in, if it were me. So, I guess I'd assess what happens tomorrow, and whether her appetite has really taken a dive and go from there. If she has tendencies toward hypo -- well then I'd take a whole other route and find whatever it took to avoid it. Is she drinking okay?

| How long has she been eating raw? Is it new to her? That's quite a variety of foods for a beginner. When I first started Lola we stayed with chicken legs and thighs for almost 3 weeks before I started a variety. I slowly started addiing other meats/organs. That way I could tell what agreed with her and what didn't. I don't know if that even applies here but it's a thought. I would give it a few more days to see if she comes around. Good Luck!! |

| I guess we haven't been on the prey diet too long, maybe 3 1/2 weeks. She was eager to eat usually whatever I gave her that I had on hand. She started on chicken and pork chops because that's what I had. I went out and bought chicken liver and tripe for some organ meat (I have two big dogs as well that are on the diet now). I've been feeding the big dogs venison that my neighbor had freezer burned--they had a lot! Isla hasn't had any of that since it's in enormous chunks perfect for the big dogs. So maybe I've mixed it up too much already. She did eat her chicken thigh last night! Her activity level seems fine. She's played with the neighbors dog a lot. Can't tell who's poop is who's since the big dogs run free in the backyard, there have been guest dogs and there's a lot of snow. I've found that she would rather eat her big meal at night vs. right away in the morning. I'm guessing that that is maybe what part of her deal is. She is only 5 lbs, so maybe I'm expecting her to be eating more than she needs to be. Thanks so much for your suggestions!
