Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You mean Innova EVO Red Meat small bites, right? I think it's really good - I really like the fact that it doesn't contain flax, and that it has rather limited ingredients (rather than stuffing a whole bunch of stuff in there), while still maintaining protein content.

| If you mean the dry formula, there is better out there in the way of quality for your money. Take a look at this: Champion Petfoods | ACANA | Our Products I started feeding it this year to ALL of my dogs, all are competition dogs, one retired. So far, AMAZING. I also put my litter of Black Russian Terrier puppies on it a few weeks ago (they'll be 8 weeks tomorrow) and their weight has never been so conistently increasing until I switched and their coats have grown exponentially. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh yay! That is a nice food. Each food is different, so I would check out the bag for feeding guidelines to see if your baby is eating close to normal. From there, I always "feed to condition", meaning, I feed according to how their body/ribs feel.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hey Girl ! Flax is ALA, which needs to be converted to DHA and EPA (what's in fish oil) for a dog to be able to use it. Some dogs cannot convert it at all - so not only do they NOT receive any of the benefit from the Omega, but it can then also make them itchy. I'm now using Ark Naturals Royal Coat which contains Fish Oil, vit a/d/e, AND borage oil. Borage oil contains the fatty acid GLA, which is super beneficial for skin issues and atopy-related skin issues.

And if you don't mind... what is beef cartilage? It's in Innova's red meat products. Meat-Based Pet Food – Premium Dog Food, Cat Food, Ferret Food, Dog Treats – EVO Pet Products | |

Cartilage is a connective tissue found all over the body - it looks like Innova is using it for their chondroitin source.

Some folks alternate fish and flax oil - so they're sure in getting the EPA/DHA (from the fish), but may also be getting it from flax. Flax has great benefits if converted. Some give just the fish oil bc then the doggies don't have to convert it. Of course, you want to try to give the safest fish oil you can find.

| We started Nikko (almost 6mo old) on the EVO red meat small bites... switched gradually, and now he's been purely on the new food for two days. He was on Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul, and had pretty much NEVER had a nice firm poop. The vet, of course, told us to switch to Science Diet, but I decided to go for a grain-free food. EVO red meat small bites had practically none of the same ingredients as Chicken Soup, so I went for that... I would've done a fish and potato food, but the only one my pet food store had listed chicken meal as the second ingredient, which feels like it would defeat the purpose of a fish and potato diet? Anyways... I am so far extremely happy about EVO red meat! Nikko pooped much less yesterday than he had been a week before, and today he had the firmest poop I have ever seen come out of him! Eventually he will probably get to try the other EVO, and I'm still planning on letting him try some raw chicken legs. His funny little itching quirks haven't gone away yet, but at least the poop isn't soft serve chocolate anymore!!!!! One step at a time :-) Lauren & Nikko |
