| Red Spot on Sclera I was looking at Ellie's eyes and caught a glance of a red spot on her sclera (eye white). It is smaller than a pencil eraser but blood red. She doesn't appear to be in any pain or discomfort. Her eye may be watering but I can't tell because I may have irritated her by playing with it. You have to pull her conjunctiva down to see it. I don't see it on her other eye. I was thinking it is probably normal blood vessels or something but now I'm not sure because I can't find the same spot in the other eye and I thought blood vessels looked thinner. It may have always been like this but do any of your dogs have it? Anybody know if it is a problem? The pics online aren't really showing this. It kind of looks like a bunch of blood vessels altogether or something. Watch. Tomorrow I'll find the same thing in her other eye.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Have you ever seen a broken blood vessel in the eye? I wonder if it's that. At first, the area looks solid, bright red - then, as it fades it may appear more "stringy" or less solid. She could have blown a little vessel during vomiting. Do you think it could be this?

That is a good description. It looks stringy, not solid red, but it is just too many strings to looks normal. She has it on her other eye buy the strings may be thinner and there are nearly as many bunched together. I was thinking subconjuctival hemorrhage and I'd just do benign neglect for now but I just find it a bit odd.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It could be, but I think it'd be rare unless she was realllllly straining, and I think she'd have to have pretty weak capillaries for it to happen from that, but it's possible. Hmmmm...another Ellie mystery on the horizon....

On a happier note, I found a recipe for her (cottage cheese based) that I will be using for at least 2 months to see how her stomach does on it. I know it iprobably isn't the best for IBD but I just wanted her on a different protein and grain free. We also got her probiotics last night, so we shall see. I would be very willing to continue with a fish based diet but I don't think any of it in the grocery store is from the US.

It really is confounding that our fish is from everywhere but HERE right now...I just don't understand it.

| Now she has a red spot on her belly with a vein-like thing showing on her skin. It loooks like the vein leads to the spot. Both of these could be a coincidence (poked stomach or something and eye always been like that) but right now I am very nervous.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh goodness!! What the heck? I don't even know what to think of it. The only thing coming to mind is some kind of vascular issue - weakened walls or something? But I really don't know...

| Today the spot on her stomach went down (started to last night) but is still noticeable. It's just odd. Hopefully it keeps going away. Never a dull moment.

| this is what Stormy's eye looks like! She has vomited quite a few times from her antibiotics the past couple of days. I am not sure if I should be worried, has ellie's gone down? I just posted a topic in the other forum. |

You can definately tell that it is an enlarged vein now....thick, stringy looking and dark red. It needs to be looked at just in case but she has a vet appt. in 6 days. I am just going to wait. She doesn't seem bothered by it at all. If she did, we would go in early. I'd like her to be seen now but I'm sure in Ellie's case, it is nothing serious. I don't know.

| Stormy had been vomiting a bit a couple days ago and yesterday is when I noticed in the corner of her left eye, the white part, is red. Looks like a blood vessel popped. kind of like blood shot eyes a person would have. It isn't bothering her at all so I am just going to see what happens, right now she is going through some constipation I am more worried about. I hope Ellie gets better |

| I was freaked out at first because I didn't notice it til I was in the store and it was a shocker. But today it does look like it has gone down some, it is red not pink. Of course if it isn't improving I will have to bring her in, but for now it doesn't seem to be worsening so I will continue to keep an eye on it. |
