| Honest Kitchen vs Ziwi Peak Hey guys, Ive been feeding my 5 month old EVO for around two months now with absolutely no problems at all. I know its a good quality food but Im leaning towards feeding him raw now becasue Ive been told its much better on their digestion systems than kibble. Tess at the Honest Kitchen is sending me samples to try out, and Ive also recieved samples from Ziwi Peak from New Zealand. My question is I noticed the Honest Kitchen contains herbs vegetables meat etc. (no grain), that you have to add water to. Ziwi Peak is Naturally Air Dried and contains Meat , New zealand Mussles, Parsley, Kelp, and Hoki fish oil. All native to New Zealand and bred Harmone and chemical free. There in lies my delima. Both foods are rather pricey but well worth it. It seems to me that the Ziwi Peak has more of what dog nutritionally need? Honest Kitchen has a lot of vegies herbs etc? What do you guys think? |

| The biggest difference between the two is that Ziwi Peak has a much higher protein & fat content. Ziwi Peak also comes in two different forms - the "jerky" type and canned. The canned actually contains organ meat and bones, so it contains things that THK and the Ziwi jerky does not. If you are tryly looking for a great balance, how about using THK for one meal each day and the Ziwi Peak canned for another. The canned also comes in 5 different meat sources, so you would also have all the variety needed.

| That actually sounds like a logical idea. I very well may just switch up the two different brands. Ziwi Peak and THK. Great Idea. Thanks |

| Ziwi Peaks reply I had asked Geoff at Ziwi New Zealand about the nutritional values of feeding their Air Dried Raw diet vs Canned, and or both. Heres his reply. I think Im still going to switch up his diet occasionally. Hi Paul Thanks for your enquiry. Firstly, like the cans, the ZiwiPeak range of dried cuisine has everything your Yorkie needs. The ZiwiPeak range, as you no doubt saw from our web site, are all natural meat (above 90% dry), have no preservatives and no grains or fillers. We specialize in "Good Cat or Good Dog" natural jerky treats and our "cuisine" is a designed complete diet food. It is based on the "natural fall" of an animal, the meat and organs such as a cat or dog would eat in the wild. We also add a specially formulated vitamins and minerals specific to cat or dogs as specified by nutrition experts and are better than AAFCO standards to ensure that the cuisine has everything that the pet needs. We produce the cuisine in jerky and canned forms. The specifications on the products are far beyond any other petfood, and the health benefits are well documented, being why our distributors sell to a lot of vets and pet health stores. You don't need any supplements. I hope this answers your question. Kind regards Geoff |

| Hi! I have a little 5 pound yorkie boy. Ive been feeding him Ziwipeak Venison for almost 2 years now. The back of the ZiwiPeak bag or can has a size vs amount chart on it. You dont need to feed them that much Ziwipeak because it a dehydrated meat. For my dog I only feed him just under a Ziwipeak cup a day. Trust me that is all it takes and he is very healthy. I have him checked out at the vet every few months and he has absolutely no problems at all. No alergies..........nothing. Let me know how your little one does Paul |

| Just a quick thought on water... We live in the desert, and sometimes I worry that Nikko is playing so hard he forgets or thinks he doesn't have time to stay as hydrated as he should. So when I think he needs more water, I fill a little bowl up with as much water as I want him to drink, and then I put just two or three little tiny pieces of shredded cheese (like the kind that comes in bags from the supermarket) into the water. He's so excited when I do this, he practically inhales all of the water so that he can get to the cheese as soon as I sit it down next to his food dish. :-) Lauren & Nikko |

| lemonlauren great idea on the water... my cooper is not a huge fan of water, they almost didnt do his dental last week because of his bun and creatin levels, i started to give him chicken broth that i made, im afraid the box or can type even the low sodium has way 2 much salt at 24%. Ill try the cheese in water and see if that works.cooper and shaffer eat stella and chewys and i add water but if it sits to longs and turns to mush coper hates it. Im going to try the hk and zp also Last edited by fifeandshaffer; 07-18-2010 at 10:18 PM. |

| dont give the broth from the stores; they have too much sodium; also it has onion powder if u read the ingredients. it' s best if you make ur own broth; boil some chicken or turkey in water and use that water. the other idea is good too. i will try it with her ziwipeak ; she loves that food; so i will put few in water and see if that works i also was looking at the addiction canned food and ordered some yesterday; the venison and cranberries hunter's feast wet food. taht way i know at least she gets some water in her food besides the ziwipeak. thanks
