| False Pregnancy? My Lola was supposed to be spayed on January 7, and of course she went into her first heat on December 19. I wanted to wait and let her regain her strength from all of the bleeding since she is so small (less than 3 lbs), so I rescheduled her spay for the first week of February. Her mammary glands are still VERY swollen, although the swelling has gone down everywhere else. She is a little more affectionate and cuddly than normal - I am wondering if this swelling is normal or if she could be having a false pregnancy. How long is the swelling supposed to last? If it is a false pregnancy, is it safe to spay while the supposed pregnancy is taking place? She is not carrying around any toys or nesting at this time. She was a year old January 17. Thanks for any help. Last edited by Lolasmom1211; 01-21-2009 at 11:54 AM. Reason: added birthdate |

| Is there any chance at all she was exposed to a male? If not it should be Ok to get her spayed. I would wait a couple weeks longer just to be safe for the spay |

| No, she was not exposed to a male. My male has been neutered. I'm just worried because she still seems so swollen. Thanks for your reply! |

| Fiona had a false pregnancy . She was supposed to get spayed 11.4.08 came into heat 11.1.08, and finally got spayed 11.25.08. the vet said she had a false pregnancy. She was nesting all her toys, and everything. she did great during the spay too. I made sure she wasn't around any intact male dogs too. Sometimes dogs just go through the motions that they are pregnant, because they dont know they arent supposed to have puppies.

| Ps. Fiona was fine during the surgery, the vet did say that her uterus was active and puffy , and her mamory glands were swollen, but she did fine!

| Thanks, that makes me feel a little better about having her surgery done in February. Last edited by Lolasmom1211; 01-22-2009 at 06:44 PM. Reason: spelling! |
