| I've never tried that line of their food. About a decade ago when I first got my shih-tzu, she was 3-5 years old, she had a very dull grey and white coat. She was fed a mix of people food, white rice, and some dry kibbles (not sure on brand as we were just given some in a zip-lock bag). Almost as soon as I got her, I picked up a new dog food recommended by a shop owner. It was Diamond brand dog food. Can't quite recall the formula, but definitely not a "natural" line. The first year we had her while she was on that food, her coat got noticeably better! Of course, we had her shaved down, and when it grew out again, it was vibrantly black and white. Her whites had a nice shine to it too! I'm pretty sure it was the food, not just the extra sun and outdoors she got from being with us versus being with her previous owners. I can't recall our reason for changing the food on her other than the fact that after she had finished that large bag of food, by then, the place that sold it was no longer. Her hair never got the same shine with the other two brands we went with later, but it was never as "dull" again either. I'm sorry, this may not be relevant to the specific line you're asking about. I was just sharing my experience with Diamond themselves, albeit a VERY long time ago, before this generation of recalls, etc. |

| I will NEVER EVER knowingly feed any food manufactured at a Diamond Plant. That includes Canidae which I understand is processed at a Diamond Plant. When they had the recall in 2006 the small local feed dealer I buy horse feed from had a large supply of a variety of Diamond foods. At that time I was feeding Diamond Lamb and Rice to my Boxer. Robert called me and warned me about the food - even before the official recall was made. Diamond KNEW that there was a problem long before they issued the recall and basiclaly allowed untold numbers of dogs to get sick and die. Not only that, the ONLY restitution they were willing to make to this small locally owned feed dealer was to replace tainted food with more "untainted" food. What about that for customer service. Here is a link to a statement from Canidae Consumer complaints about CANIDAE Pet Foods |

YT 2000 Club Member | Taste of the Wild is also made by diamond and my dogs were on that and they did ok. Its a high protien, grain free food. Thier coats looked good, there eyes were brighter and most important they ate it!! I swtiched my dogs only because it was too high in protein. I would still recommend the food to anyone who asked me about it. I think what diamond did was wrong, but dont you think that they have cleaned thier plants up some after the recall in 2006??? Alot of thier foods dont even contain grains anymore that started the recall in the first place. They had to of lost millions of dollars over it and we all know the pet food industry is all about the money.

| It's up to us: To be honest, I don't know if we can trust any of them, I think we need to keep each other inform if we see a problem with a food we are feeding we need to ask if anyone else is having the same problems. I also feel that the small dogs will be the first to start having problems before the larger ones do. so therefore we are at a greater risk of not knowing until it's to late. even our food is not safe anymore, now the peanut recall.

| Here is the review of the Diamond Natural Chicken and Rice. It is not recommend by Dog Food Analysis: Dog Food Reviews - Diamond Naturals Small Breed Adult Chicken & Rice Formula - Powered by ReviewPost The Diamond Natural Puppy food is 32 percent protein and I feel that is too high for a yorkie puppy. I have been feeding Canidae and Chicken Soup for years and have never had any problems. Both are produced at Diamond Manufacturing. Just as someone else stated there are many problems that can arise in producing dog food as well as in people foods. With any dog food you will find people that have had bad experiences. Another thing is that I don't necessarily believe ever bad review I see. After the dog food recall the sales for Canidae skyrocketed and it would not put it past some of their competition to put out some bad review just to hurt Canidae's business. When anyone switches their dogs from one dog food to another they often, in the beginning, they may get poor results, like loose stools. Dog's that have been fed primarily a grain based dog food will need more time to adjust to a dog food that has less grain and higher quality protein. From my own experience of raising yorkies for 12 years I have discovered several years ago that mine do not do well on any dog food with beef in it. I primarily stick with chicken or lamb as the first ingredient. Although, mine do love the Fromm Duck and Sweet Potato but I give that more as a treat. I just mix in a little with their Canidae. My Yorkies also don't care for dog foods that have a lot of fish in them. I know many dogs do well on dog foods that have lots of grain in them but in the long run I feel that their health is compromised. With a quality dog food you get a lot less waste coming out than you do with those dog foods with lots of grains and fillers. |

| TheDogPlace DogCare FDA says Diamond Failed To Test Corn for aflatoxin Evidently they didn't feel like testing corn that day? If they are going to let things pass through without testing, how can they be trustworthy?

| After the 2005 recall the FDA started to investigate what happened and that report reflects what led up to those recalls. Hopefully Diamond has a better control on things now. Here is an interesting website that has a lot of information on Diamond: The Diamond Dog Food Recall, Aflatoxin News, and Pet Health and Nutrition Issues (A+ FRR FAQs) It is my understanding that Canidae just has their food manufactured at Diamond manufacturing. Canidae buys all the ingredients and in is charge of the quality control. A little off topic but my sister-in-law had a poodle that lived to be 22 years old and she was fed cheap dog food (pedigree) and table scraps. I asked her the other day when she stopped giving her vaccinations and she said that after age 5 she had no more vaccinations. Sometimes I wonder if it really matters that much what we feed them but for myself, I just feel more comfortable feeding the better foods. Last edited by bjh; 01-20-2009 at 09:09 AM. |
