| I am pretty certain you have to get that medicine from the vet.

Being the floppy eared dog that he is my standard poodle gets ear infections quite frequently and the vet prescribed Epi-otic Ear Solution for Cats and Dogs by Virbac. Not sure if it would work for ear mites but it says it is a routine ear cleanser so I think it is pretty harmless.

I think you can get it at petsmart. If you use Revolution (topical) to control fleas, it prevents against earmites.

Yes, you can get it at Petsmart. I have it and it's called R-7M Ear Mite Treatment. I use it as a precaution

I use eradimaite for all my Yorkies. First, the ears must be cleaned with a gentle solution like calm ear. Then you put in 10 drops in each ear. In exactly 7 days, you do it again to kill any eggs ready to hatch. Then, in exactly seven more days, you give one last treatment to ensure all eggs are killed. Your baby will love you! Just be sure to massage and rub the ear to get the solution down in the ear to kill the mites.Don't be alarmed when your puppy rubs it's head against everything - it's just the mites dying. Good luck! Rizzi

I'ts been a long time since I had to deal with them. But, like everyone else has said I think as well that it is probably something that you have to get from the vet. I've seen medicine at Wal-Mart but, it probably isn't as good as what you can get from the vet. Good Luck

I use campho phenic like you get at the grocery. In the green bottle. We used it on rabbits and the cats and it's cheap. Just put a few drops in and massage the ear. Kills them fast. Can get the gel too and you put a little on the outside of the ear to kill any wanderer mites. Be sure and wash everything - hot and use flea/mite spray everywhere you can - couches/beds/carpet.

My groomer also told me that she thought Millie had ear mites. This came 3 or 4 days after I had just seen the Vet and he checked her ears, and found that there was waxy build up. So I called the vet and told him what the groomer said. This was his response: You cannot tell if a dog has earmites unless you look for them through a microscope. While dogs can get ear mites, it is not common for them or as common as in other animals like cats. He thought that the groomer may be looking at black flecks in the ear from the ear wax build up and told me to continue to give her the ear cleaning solution that I gotten from him when I saw him. So in order to get a confirmed diagnosis of earmites you do need to get the dog to a vet so that he can do a microscopic study and then get a prescription to get the mites cleared up.

Ear mites are teeny tiny bugs (you really can't see them). They will "nest" in the ear and multiply and the ear can become infested with them. Where they get them, I really don't specifically know. But I do know that there are mites living all over the place including our beds (mattresses), pillow, carpet, outside, ect. I don't know where the kind that likes ears come from.
