| Prey model raw help? I am curious about this diet. My Harley is only 18 weeks old. What should I feed him and how much? Besides meat, do I need to feed him anything else? I saw something about fish oil? I have seen a lot of posts about chicken wings and other types of chicken, but I was told never to feed a dog chicken bones because they could choke on them. How do you get around this? I am very concerned about him puncturing his intestines. Also is pork chops and such okay for a yorkie, because my mom has a whole pig she doesn't like and is going to throw out! I would appreciate any input anyone might have. Thanks!

| You need to feed 80% meat, 10% bone, and 10% organ meat (with 5% being liver). Bones are fine as long as they're raw and large enough -- it needs to be big enough so that they have to chew on it as opposed to straight swallowing. Cooked bones are what people are concerned about, they are brittle and can break and splinter. You are supposed to feed 2-3% of their body weight. You can supplement with fish oil if you want for a shiny coat but it's definitely not necessary. Here are a couple of sites I've found to be really helpful! I'm still in the process of researching myself so I know exactly how confusing it can be! rawfeeding : Raw Feeding for dogs and cats! Jane Anderson's Raw Learning Site

| - Puppies? Most raw prey model feeders feed 2 - 3% of the projected adult body weight. So a little GSD puppy, who may grow to be 80 lbs, will still be fed about 2% of the 80 lbs as a puppy. Just spaced out over a few feedings since puppies do better with more frequent feedings. Once they hit about 6 months, you can back off to twice a day, and once a year old, you can do once a day, or even the gorge/fast if that's what you prefer. I found this quote online. Harley is 18 weeks and weighs roughly 4 lbs. I weighed myself with and without him so that is why I say roughly. So, how do I know his projected adult weight so I know what 2-3% would be? Also any ideas on the pork? Thank you!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Do you know what he weighed at 12 weeks? If you double that, it is a fair estimate of his adult weight.

| No I don't know what he weighed at 12 weeks. I got him when he was about 16 weeks, and I probably weighed him a week later.

| I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard a couple places that you can feed a puppy 10% of his weight. Also, here's a projected growth chart, so you can guess what the final adult weight will be. All puppies grow differently though, so it's just a guess. From what I've learned, I think you need to start this all very slowly. Feed just chicken, maybe even just chicken legs and breasts, for the first week. Then add in a new part of the chicken, and wait a week. Then a little liver. I don't think you're suppossed to do anything but chicken for at least the first month. The prey model diet takes some tweaking, and figuring out what agrees with your pup best, what he will/won't eat, and what makes poops the best (though there's suppossed to usually be a few days at least in the beginning where poops look bad because they're transitioning to a new food). Check out this thread for lots more information - it's long, but worth reading. And be sure to look at all the links people post on there as well. Good luck if this is what you decide to do! :-) Lauren & Nikko |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | Just make sure you do it gradually, like someone else said start with chicken breast, other chicken parts. I did it and i fed mine a little too much too quickly and they had diarrhea and throwing up all over my house so i had to stop.
