| When you take your baby to the vet be sure to not put her on the ground outside the vets or on the floor in the vet's office. How old is your baby? Has she had all her shots? I advise against the lepto shot. Never let a vet give a rabies shot at the same time other vaccinations are given. I advise waiting as long as possible before giving them the rabies shot. Ask the vet to check her knees and check for a hernia. In general, most vets do these things anyway and they just evaluate the overall health of the puppy. If possible take a fresh stool sample with you so the vet can check for parasites. Try not to be nervous because the puppy might sense that and feel scared and nervous too. I do hope all goes well. Be sure to give us an update when you get back. Oh, and I forgot to add: Welcome to Yorkie Talk. We will be looking forward to getting to know you and Olivia better. | Here is a good article that explains the different types of vaccinations. Critter Advocacy The new vaccination protocol recommends that puppies should not have their first shots until they are at least 8 weeks old. If your puppy is just now 8 weeks and had shots then the people you bought the puppy from should have let you know what shots she had and what dates. The lepto shot is to protect dogs from the leptospirosis virus but the shot itself is very controversial because some puppies have severe side effect to the shot. If your vet feels that lepto is a problem in your area then I would wait until your puppy is at least 16 weeks before allowing the shot. How much does your puppy weigh and is she eating good? What do you feed her? |

| Tid bit At my first vet visit, I only had one question. How I should expect my baby to act after getting shots. They can get lethargic and sleepy so it might scare one. Good luck and don't worry! Amber & Benz |

| Panacur is a dewormer. It looks like she has had lots of shots already. Were these all done by the breeder or by a vet? I hope her vet checkup goes well. Please let us know how it goes. |
