| My Yorkie is pregnant and I don't know what to expect Hi everyone I am new to this forum and I'm sure everyone here loves their Yorkie as much as I love mine. She is like my child. Let me tell you that this pregnancy was an accident. She was "raped" by a Chihuahua. That stupid dog dug a hole underneath my fence and got in. The dog belongs to someone that lives in the other block and I have not been able to locate which specific house but my poor Bella is having problems breathing and she has some type of irritation in her right eye. I have to call the vet on Monday to make an appointment. I think she is about one month along but I don't know what to expect as far as the delivery etc. Please inform me and let me know what to expect so that I don't worry so much and how to make her more comfortable......thank you,Mercedes50 |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Welcome to the forum Mercedes,I am sorry for what happen to you girl, I had a similar incident back in november, but it was my male yorkie who did the "deed" to my son's Jack Rusell terrier girl, He adopted his 4 year old girl from a shelter and she was supposed to be spayed and we found the hard way she was NOT..if you check the Breeders forum here you will find a wealth of information, I think I read every thread in there for about 2 years back...LOL I also did a lot of research online, and found LOTS of information, I will start to tell you that yes, your girl NEEDS to see the VET, fast and he will guide you some too. But I found MOST of help in this forum and some others, in here you will find information on everything you will need for making sure her whelping is a confortable and safe one.. if you have any questions please feel free to email me.. hugs, Carmen in nj |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | puppies We had babies twice. The first time our female went into labor I just knew it. She was breathing heavy and panting. We made her a basket with warm flannel sheets to line the basket, but when the bubble statred comming out of her I freaked out. We rushed her to the vet where they just put her in a cage by herself and she had the pup when they brought her out to us. So the second time we had pups I just hung tough and kept her home in the same basket, and she whelped in the basket. (whelped means gave birth) I had to help her a little, but not much.. The baby(s) come out in individual sacs. The mama will lick and bite the sac off and clean baby up real good! My groomer purposly mated her Yorkie with a chihuaua and the call them chorkies, they are really cute. Good luck Judy |

| If your girl is having trouble breathing, she needs to go to an emergency vet. There are lots of posts in the breeders section about what to expect. How much does she weigh and how old is she? It is very important to be able to get ahold of $500-$2000 depending on your area in case a c-section is needed.

| Welcome to YT! I am glad to have you here, but sorry that you are here under these circumstances. I have heard of yorkie litters being anywhere from 1-6 pups, with 2-3 being really common. I don't know anything about pet insurance...I would think you probably couldn't get it on your girl now because she is pregnant. But maybe you could after the pups are born. Please please please don't wait to go to the vet if your furbaby is having trouble breathing! Take her right away! How old is she? Were you planning on breeding her, or was she not spayed yet?

| Hi Mercedes and Welcome to Yorkie Talk!! Please take your girl to the Vet and have her checked. Esp. since she's having trouble breathing and is only 30 days or so along. Most of the people post on here about litter size from 1-6, and one lady had a 16 pound Yorkie that had I think 11 pups! How old is your girl? What did she weigh before getting pregnant?? As she progresses your vet can do an x-ray and tell you how many spines/heads he sees. Also, If it's her first litter she may need a c-section, So, keep some extre $$ on hand just in case!! Keep us up to date!! Good-Luck...

| I am back I am so sorry I have not replied sooner but I have been busy with my sweetie. Took her to the vet last week and she had ultrasound and x-rays done. I did get to see the puppies spines and the vet counted 4 babies. She is a lot further along than either my husband or myself thought. The vet says she is due any day now and I believe that it will be this week. She has gained six pounds. Her original weight was anything below 14 lbs and now she is exactly 20 lbs. The vet said the babies look fine and expects a normal delivery. She has been panting a lot since last night and will not eat, only drinks water, and wants to be only with me. I feel so bad for her and I wish there was something I could do to help her feel more comfortable. How long are they typically in labor?......Anyway, will return in a couple of days and hopefully I will have joyful news for everyone....by the way I have a lot of people fighting for her puppies, little do they know that they will need to fill out an application and I am going to visit their homes to make sure they are puppy proof...... |

| We have babies!!!! Sorry I did not come in and share the wonderful news sooner but my job has odd hours......we had babies one week ago tonight, unfortunately we lost two and saved two. The first two were born alive but had respiratory problems and I tried so hard to bring them back but I was unsucessful. However, two have survived (a little girl and a little boy) that I have aptly named Ricky and Lucy (I Love Lucy). One of them was born kicking and screaming and demanding attention from the very beginning and the other one is more mellow. They have her face but the have their daddy's fur.....but they are soooo cute.....She is very protective of them but a little too much because she has placed them in my bedroom and every time I want to go in there I have to remind her that I mean no harm and instead she shows me her pearly whites......I am so sad about the two that could not be saved but I count my blessings because the other two are here and the best part of all is that my Bella is fine and healthy and recuperating real well. She is back to being herself again...thank you all for being so supportive and as soon as she is able I will be taking her again to the vet for her shots.....don't think it is a good idea to do it now since she just had them......I leave you now overjoyed and sad at the same time........ |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Awwww, I am so glad that your little Bella is doing well! That's great news! I bet you are having lots of fun with those little sweeties of hers. I'm sure they are cute, cute, cute! I am however so sorry that she lost the other two babies One question though - will you be getting her spayed?

| Thank you for all of your best wishes As soon as the puppies get around and open their eyes, I will be taking pictures and uploading them to this website. However, she is eating as much as she was when she was pregnant. Drinks lots of water too. Are there vitamins or somethng that she should be taking to restore the ones she has lost, or am I being naive in thinking that way. I just want to make sure she gets what she needs (apart from love of course) Her babies are chubby and one of them is a whiner since the day he was born....... |
