| Tracheobronchitis,Dermatophitosis-help! Hello again Since my last post (while ago) we found a new vet and we did a skin test and a general examination. She found Darcy have a tracheobronchitis (think this is kennel cough ) and dermatophitosis ( I did a little research but I couldn’t find anything about it for dogs) He still scratches a lot and the vet gave me something to put on the places he scratches most and he was on antibiotics 5 days for the tracheobronchitis. She said That if the scabs and the scratching don’t go away for a month or so she have to put him on some kind of vaccine (4 times for 1 month and we have to repeat this every 6 months) for the rest of his life, also when his body clear up from the antibiotics she may do a bloodwork .This dermaoph… was a secondary thing . I think his immune system is very weak and I need some advice how to boost it. If anyone experienced the similar conditions or can help me to understand what this dermatophitosis is please help. I home cook for him and he is on chicken and vegetables and rise and barley ( a recipe I found in here), because his tummy was upset during the meds. I started to mix in his dry food two days ago. We all are very tired from the last three months. I just hate to see him like that and it hurts when I don’t know how to help him. Thank you in advance |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear about your baby. My Cali has dermatitis with bad allergies. The dermatitis was found after I noticed along her spinal area these little fskin colored scabs that flaked off when touched and she was super sensitive to being brushed or touched on her back. She would just shake and cringe when touched. The vet put her on Atopica and she has improved by 95 pecent. I hope you can get some relief.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | That's ring worm - why hasn't your vet put your baby on an Anti-fungal??? There are also special baths you could give and topical treatments. The ongoing scratching combined w/ scabs etc. could eventually lead to a staph infection - so I would treat asap. For the diet, are you balancing the cal-phos and everything else? That's extremely important; it can be dangerous if not balanced properly - if cooking longer-term. If it's not currently balanced, the immune system will be affected by this imbalance. The best way to "boost" the immune system is to provide the best nutrition possible, with all the needed nutrients, and perhaps to add things in like Omegas, digestive enzymes, probiotics. Which dry food are you feeding? I am so sorry your baby is suffering like this - I know how terrible it is to watch them hurt.

| If you're wanting to home cook- fantastic! But PLEASE consult a veterinary nutritionist to ensure that your pup is getting the proper nutrition. Home cooking 100% must be supplement with vitamins and minerals. If not, your pup's immune system is going to be weak because she isn't getting the nutrition she needs to be healthy and strong. Poor little baby, hope she lines out soon!

| Thank you for your replies. He started antibiotics last Saturday for 5 days. He is on home cooked diet since then ,our vet said that it will be best when he is on meds. I’ve already started to mix in his dry food (Orijen puppy and James Wellbeloved ,step by step it will be Orijen only in the future).I asked her for supplements but she said “lets see how he will be after a week”. I’m going to ask her on Tuesday for baths and for better explanation. I use 3 drops flaxseed oil in his breakfast. (not sure how much is Ok, I don’t want to overdo it) Wilie’s Mom can you recommend any probiotic and enzymes or a product that contains all of this .I use to give some probiotic I bought from our previous vet ,but our new one said is not very good. And he is named after Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. |
