Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | gurgling noises from belly I was wondering if anyone elses yorkie does this. About 5 or 6 times since we've had Beatrice ,over a period of 5 months she will have these quite loud gurgling noises come from her belly. She won't eat,so I know it's not hunger, all she wants then is grass[when it's fair weather] she's even tried to eat the trim on her peepad. It's like a cat when they eat grass to settle their stomaches. She doesn't seem to be in pain with it,maybe a little destressed, but she'll still play. She just won't eat.I give her pepto bismall and it seems to help. She is having one of these times now[it's Jan.9th] she had the last one on Christmas day. It's seems to be some kind of gastric thing, and she hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary. Sometimes it happens in the middle of the night, but today it was around 6:30 pm Please let me know if you've experienced this with your baby or have ever heard of something like this. Thanks |

| Yes - it is GI upset - could be IBD Don't force food on her, she doesn't feel well when this is happening. Does she has mucus poops during these episodes? Pepto will help settle her GI track, but if this continues, there may be an issue. Possibly a food allergy, bacteria over growth, etc.... If this continues, I would have a complete blood panel done at the Vet |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom has had that most of her life. She has colitis or IBD. She usually starts out with loud noises from her stomach and doesn't want to eat, which is real unusual for her. Usually with in 12 hours she is better. I do have medicine from her vet for when she has longer episodes with diahrea. Hope your baby feels better soon.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Beatrice had a bowel movement at about 4:30 am , about 1/3 of it was hard and normal looking and the rest was kind of golden in color and very mucousy, there was some red stuff in the mucous,I think it may have been blood. She seems fine today,we're just giving her rice for today. It does sound like IBD I've been reading about it online,we've taken away her rawhide, and we'll just keep her on just her kibble, and some rice. She has an appointment on January 27th for xrays on her leg that she broke back in September so we'll talk to the vet about it then,as long as she stays good until then,if not we'll bring her in sooner. |

| Hon, have you tried a different food? I know it sounds like it could be the obvious answer but some foods have so many fillers that it can cause irratable bowel. Just a suggestion!

The only chew treat I trust is Bully Sticks, but I wouldn't give her them now either, at least until you have a good amount of time that is 'episode free'. As this may be the cause or the trigger. Yes, that is how TJ was. All that noise, I thought he had a monster in his tummy. He wouldn't eat, just wanted to be held or sleep. Then he would poop about and inch or two of normal looking poop, then just globs of orange mucus. Once that was out of him, he was fine and starving.... Definitely talk with the Vet. And do a complete blood panel. TJ's folate levels were high, Vet said bacteria overgrowth which is a form of IBD. After about 1 year of trials and errors, the final med that helped TJ was Tylan Powder. TJ is now 4 years old and hasn't had the episodes since he was 1.5 yrs old Keep us posted. Thanks for the suggestion,we have tried a few different foods, apparently foods that contain duck or vennison instead of cicken or beef are better with dogs that have IBD which I'm quite sure is what she has.Her symptoms are exactly the same as described by TLC ,but to confirm it we''ll confer with the vet.We feed her a very high quality duck and potato formula for dogs with allergies and food sensitivities, that contains the best of ingredients and no grain fillers.I think it's probably the other stuff that she's getting that triggers it maybe the rawhide, apples sweet potato who knows............oh well it will be fun figuring this all out.

Well thanks , it's so nice to hear from someone that has experienced the same thing with their puppy. This is the great thing about YT. What about probiotics ? Did the vet suggest these ? Back in the summer Beatrice had a skin infection and was prescribe an antibiotic. After finishing the meds and the infection was cleared up,she had soft poop ,for what seemed like months. Then she broke her leg and when she went in for surgery we told the vets about her continuous soft pop ,he put her on a probiotic and within a few days it cleared up.Do you think that the anti-biotics could cause the IBD ?

| I ran into this once with Hiro but it went away on its own. It was some time ago -- he was real little -- like 5 months. He didn't eat the whole day and was pretty quiet but his poo was ok looking albeit a tad mucousy. Haven't had the same problem since, but I did take him off puppy chow and put him on something way better. I knew he probably wasn't feeling well but I couldn't help but giggle at the funny sounds coming from his little belly. lol

Yes I do think she should go back on Probiotics. As a matter of fact, I just started (again) both TJ and Roxy on the human kind Super 8 Probiotics by the company Flora. They get about 1/4 of the capsule sprinkled daily into their food. This should help with a lot of issues, both skin and GI

| Suzi is just getting over a stomach illness. SHe had the same gurgling sounds too. Suzi suffered from vomiting too though, and diarreah. The vet gave her antibiotics and anther meds to settle her tummy. Since then, we are going on day three of no more symtoms. I am praying that the worse is over for her. The tummy sounds are unmistakable.

| Does it sound like our stomaches when they're growling? I go through this about once a week with my biewer, she's very small. The first time it happened, I took her to the vet, well, it was her tummy growling(did sound like a gurgling sound in a way or like pneumonia sound), well, it was her stomache growling. What I do is give my dogs their treats first thing in the morning. If Tootsie doesn't eat hers, I know it's going to be one of those days, so, now, I give her just a little bit of karo syrup, and within about 10-15 min she'll eat and the gurgling sound stops. The first time, I waited until later that evening, when she hadn't eaten all day, and the gurgling kept on, I gave her the karo, and then she ate. So, now it's a routine with her. Is your pup pretty small? |

yes, it sounds like our stomaches when we're hungry ,but louder I would say.Especially for their size.Yes, she's a tiny one just a little more than 3 lbs. Beatrice is like that too,she won't eat when she has the growlies, this is when she's having an episode.I give her pepto bismol ,sometimes that doesn't even work in bad cases. I am convinced now that it's IBD What is karo syrop ?
