| how much should i feed her? Bailee was 17 weeks on Sunday. I will be starting back school two days a week soon. So on those two days, she will be alone about 5 hours, from 12-5. So,Id like to start feeding her only two times a day so 1) she will be used to not having lunch and wont be hungry and 2) i considered putting her foodin her crate, but I dont want her to be uncomfortable because she ate and has to go to the bathroom. She is 2.9 pounds right now. How much should I be feeding her if I feed her only 2 times a day?

| Take however much she is eating now and divide it into two feedings. My dogs eat very little during the day. Although they are free fed, they still only eat twice a day. Most dogs don't eat when they are left alone. |

| I think she is too young and too small to only eat twice a day. I would do no less than three or free feed. How about 6am, 11am, 4pm and 9pm? Or 11am, 5pm and 11pm? Her kibble bag should say how much and I would start there and go by how she looks and feels.

| Lots of Yorkies are three pounds full grown, so everything may be just fine. No idea and I don't think there is a way to tell. Is she skinny?

If she doesn't start growing by 20 or 24 weeks, I would talk to your vet about bile acids testing her. Have you tried canned food? Small Yorkies don't really require a lot of food though. Ellie was 5 pounds for the longest time and ate about 1/2 cup a day. She was an adult though.

Canned food being bad for teeth is half true and half rumor. There is some evidence to suggest that tartar builds up faster in dogs who eat canned food. The remedy would be brushing their teeth. Most kibbles don't make a good teeth cleaner. The studies done on this are being questioned anyway. Whatever you feed, her teeth should be brushed. Ellie ate mostly kibble after puppyhood and ended up with stage 3-4 periodontal disease, so that didn't do her much good.
