| Millie is in heat...when is it safe? My vet recommended waiting until Millie had her first heat before getting her fixed incase she suffered incontinence problems later on. Anyway, it started 2 weeks ago (she is 9 months). The bleeding is near enough finished. When is it safe for her to be around other dogs? I go back to work on Monday and my aunt keeps her while I am at work. She has a dog that has not been fixed as he has an undescended testicle and the vet cant find it at all and says the risk of surgery is too high at the minute as he is overweight. Would she be ok around him on Monday, or how do I know? Thanks

I would wait for her to be completely done with her heat cycle, just to be safe. =)

| We waited 4 weeks after she started bleeding to allow Maggie around other dogs and then 4 weeks after she STOPPED bleeding to have her spayed. It's probably not safe for her to be around dogs yet. From what I understand, 2 weeks into the heat is when she can mate. It'll be the most tempting at this time. You don't want to risk anything.

| Thanks everyone I will wait until the end of next week. It will mean being left in the house on her own for a few days while I am at work, but better safe than sorry.
