| Chicken I had baked a chicken and took some of the breast meat and pounded it thin. Layed it on foil and put it in a low oven for about an hour till it was fairly dried. Crumbled it on Daisys food and she seemed to like it. I know you can buy dried chicken breast strips that have no additives or preseratives but is doing chicken this way ok. Should I be concerned about the amount of protein in chicken?? I have no idea what it is? |

| Mine get chicken every night for dinner....I buy boneless skinless chicken breasts and boil them. I just shred it up and give them a small amount...I typically do a few at a time and put it in the food processor so it makes it easier during the week...I usually add just a touch of fat free low sodium chicken broth to it to moisten....spoils them to death but they love it...on the weekends I'll add rice...

Donating YT 14K Club Member | That sounds like a very healthy treat. I know with pregnant or nursing mommas, you should boil a chicken and feed them that. There is lots of protein in chicken and they love it. Great idea!!!

| Isn't to much protein bad tho? How much is to much? The package of the dehydrated chicken breast filets says 70% protein. That seems high. But then if I am giving her a piece say one inch square cut in tiny pieces I guess its not much. I wonder tho how much the baked chicken is |

| My breeder told me to steam boneless chicken breasts. I give my puppy strips of chicken with cottage cheese. (which she also recommended) She seems to like it!

| I don;t thnk it matters...it won;t do any harm. I personally don't mix real food with dog food, but maybe that's just me.

Also it is not a bad idea to get your baby used to mixing in some dry dog food in...talk to your vet for the best...cause the good ones have all kinds of vitamins and minerals that your yorky does need in his diet. Having said all that, the odd chicken breast snack is no problem | |

| One inch square! Crumbled up with kibbled dry food! If it will get her to eat the dry food then what could that little bit of chicken hurt? And I would love to mix all those other 'good' things in with her food, as it is, I'm doing good to get this dog to eat much of anything. Only in my dreams is this puppy a good eater! |

| Jenni I think you're doing great. There's nothing wrong with Chicken especially since Daisy isn't eating. My vet had said a couple of times a week of either egg, cottage cheese and chicken is good for them. Just keep it mixed with her kibble so she gets other nutrients as well.

| We have chicken 1 or 2 times a week and I always give Gus some. He loves it and my vet said it was good for him. Gus loves to eat and yet he don't gain weight. So extra protein a few times a week and nutical every day, helps me not worry about it too much. The Vet said he is just fine. He's just a tiny thin yorkie, but very healthy. I finally got him to where you can't see and feel his ribs. So I am very happy. Sounds to me you are doing a very good job. Don't you just love this site? I am so grateful to be a part of the YT Family. I like the fact that there are pet owners who are as passionate about their Yorkie as I am. And can always trust that I will get good advise.

| Monica I want to know how we ended up with these picky eaters! LOL Daisy is the worlds worst. One day she likes something and the next she won't touch it! Getting her to eat has been a problem since day one. She is 4 months and weighs 2lb 9 oz. She is gaining and is healthy so I guess thats what matters. She eats the most when my daughter brings her boxer over and feeds her here. Then Daisy really eats good. I do give her an eraser size bit of nutracal twice a day. She went into hypoglycemic shock last week after her shot and that is something I never want to have happen again. It was horrible. |
