Stopped Eating I have an 8 year old Yorkie and he just lost interest in eating. It started last night, he cried a little near his food but then ended up eating it, and this morning did not eat at all. He usually RUNS to his food. He is eating Royal Canin, no major changes in his routine except we don’t go for daily walks anymore as it is freezing cold where I live. We still play enough to get him his exercise. Someone I work with suggested that he might have a virus or something and that is why he isn’t eating. I should wait it out and let it pass. What do you think?

Please take him to the vet asap. Not eating is sign that something is wrong. He is also in danger of dehydrating. At eight, he is considered a senior. Has he has a complete geriatric panel (including thyroid) recently?

Maybe he has some absessed teeth that are hurting him. Will he let you look in his mouth? Don't waste any time though ..... take him to the vet asap .... suddenly stopping eating all together is NOT good news .... occasionally dogs/cats will go off their food but not stop eating all together - they might just not finish all you put down for them as they used to - sort of like *picky kids* .... LoL !!!!. Keep us up to date with what's happening!

Well I came home from work at lunch hand-fed him yesterday and he ate, then he gobbled up his dinner. This morning, I hand-fed him a few and now he is eating the rest. It's like I have to convince him to eat, and once he starts he eats it all. Is it possible that he's just tired of his food?

| If he is going potty ok and playing (acting regular except for food) maybe he is just having one of those days. Max does that to me. He does not eat all day until dinner and I am freaking out ..."He's not eatting...". If there are any other symptoms I would get him into the vet.
