| Advantage What do you all think about Advantage? It's the only one I could get. Here's the low down. lol. My yorkie who is 5 and half pounds and Odie who is 8 pounds. Have been scratching a bit more than they normally do. Now I have checked and checked and re-checked. I can't find anything on them, not even flea dirt. I gave them a bath and there was nothing in the water, nothing on the towels. I haven't seen or found anything where they sleep either. I also have two cats, one is scratching a bit more than usual as well, (he eats the dogs food) he is getting over his yeast infection in his ears though. My other cat hardly scratches at all. To add to things my mom got a Chi puppy, 10 weeks, 2 pounds. Now, I went to the vet to get some advantage just in case and explained what was going on, she said to try the advantage and to see if that works. If it does it must have been creepy crawlies right. But if not I have to take them in to get checked to see if its some kind of allergy or something. Now, I haven't given them the advantage yet, I got them each one for all five of the furry butts. I'm a little freaked to give it to them, it will be fine right? I'm not sure about giving the little two pound chi the whole dose though. Help and suggestions or help would be great. Thanks. |

| It will be fine for most dogs but any animal could have an allergic reaction to it. Over time the chemicals could potentially build up in their systems causing issues, just like vaccines. You have to do what you have to do though... I'd be nervous about using a full dose on a 2 pound dog also. Some YT members who use Frontline split the dose. That may be an option but most vets seem to disagree. I will say, that is what I would do...for flea meds if I had to give them, not for heartworm meds. If you aren't seeing anything on them, are you sure it isn't mites? Where are they scratching? What are they eating?

| They're scratching around their neck. Its not excessive like I said, just a little more than they usually do. They're eating Natural Balance. My fat old cat likes to sneak and eat the dogs kibble. They were on Royal Canin, but they had an episode and had gotten sick from eating from a newly opened bag. Then I tried Wellness, Odie ate it, Tila didn't want to eat. Now they're on Natural Balance, which seems okay. I need to find a medium for them both because they like to nibble from each others bowls. Odie seemed best on RC, his coat was shiny and he gained weight and kept it on, which is hard for him to do. Tila seemed to prefer the taste of Royal Canin too. But I was wary when they both got sick. Honestly I know everyone says NB is a good food and most prefer it, but I'm not liking it too much. I didn't like Wellness at all. It isn't up to me though, its up to my babies. I need to find something tastey that doesn't make them itch, that they'll both like and benefit from. Irk, dog food its so hard to chose a good one. I think I'm gonna stick to NB though, unless thats what's making them itch so much. I thought NB was best for allergies and stuff though. Anyways, wow I wrote a lot. Sorry. |

| Don't worry about writing a lot. I'm sure I've written more than a novel about Ellie's issues on YT. When is the last time you gave them the RC? They were itchy on that? A lot of Yorkies get itchy with it (including Ellie). NB isn't a bad food and some of their formulas are good for allergies but it isn't perfect either (just like all other foods). If they have been on it for awhile and aren't doing well, then they probably need a switch. If the RC did cause the itching, it could take 60-90 days from last exposure for the itching to stop. I have read some unfavorable things about Wellness and soft stool issues. Have you looked into Natura (Innova/California Natural)? I think I had read a couple reports of stool issues with Innova too though. It really depends on the individual dog.
