| Broccoli bad for dogs? Is this true? My boys eat it all the time! I usually cook mixed frozen veggies and give them the leftovers, which usually have broccoli! I read this on a list of do not feed foods! I was shocked! If it is true, why? What does Broccoli do to them? Thanks!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Is this on Yorkietalk list? From what I've read on other sites, certain foods are on lists because the ingredients have never been tested for safety, not necessarily because they are unsafe. I've given Joey broccoli from time to time with no ill effects. I'll have to do some more research.

| Broccoli is fine but it does contain something (I think I read it is some sort of "toxin") that can upset their stomachs. It depends on the individual dog and one site recommended not making it more than 10% of their diet. Ellie does fine with it.

| Crystal ate broccoli often and in fact it was her favorite treat. When she would smell it being steamed, she would do a dance. I think it agreed with her since she lived to 14 yrs and even then did not die of a illness but an accident.

| I have never tried giving my yorkie Mya broccoli, but growing up we had a brittany spaniel, and my mom used to give her frozen stalks of fresh broccoli and she LOVED it. Never had any health side effects....other than HORRIBLE gas hahah

| I don't know about Yorkies, but broccoli is not good for guinea pigs because it can make them gassy - uncomfortable tummies. |
