| I'm new ,Darcy drinks more water than before! Hi to all I’m new here, but been reading a lot, and I want to thank you all for all of your posts, they are really helpful. Darcy is 4 months old and he is very cute , we have him for 6 weeks now and he is our first pet but we love him very much already (the hubby wasn’t very exited at the beginning but we are at the same place now). These 6 weeks we went to the vet like 30 times (the clinic is 3-4 minutes walk from home) .First we brought him home with a very bad skin condition all flaky and not very manageable, the vet said is seborrhea , then he was scratching his ears like crazy bit the skin was ok so the vet said is ear infection and eye infection in the same tame we treat these as well. Now the skin is ok a bit dry I think and the eyes and the ears a all clean and healthy and he still scratch his tummy and armpits a lot and the new thing he do now is chewing his paws, he looks healthy and energetic and there is no change in his behavior (I’m starting to lose faith in our vet) He was on Royal Canine when we got him, then I change him on hills mini puppy which was recommended by our vet. He likes it and he was only on Hills when he had to take his second Lepto shoot on 12 of November(it is unavoidable in Bulgaria where we live ) and he was a bit sleepy for a while . Last week I’ve noticed that he drinks a little bit more water than before and just wondered could that be because of the vaccines or the food. What do you think it is? And can all these things be related somehow. After reading posts about good and bad foods in YT I think to change again, but couldn’t decide between a few brands available in Europe. A little help here would be much appreciated. I could buy online Wafcol Salmon puppy (UK brand) ,Orijen, Solid Gold, James Wellbeloved (UK), Arden Grange adult. Some of them as I see are a bit fatty (over 14% fat) is that something to think about before buying. Thank you in advance! (as I’m Bulgarian my English might be confusing ,sorry about it ) |

Darcybaby ........ your English is fine and you are perfectly understandable From what you are describing I would be inclined to think your puppy is showing signs of being allergic to the food you've been feeding him. If at all possible I would recommend you start feeding Orijen - Orijen is a very good food for your Yorkie and contains NO grains at all but instead contains meats and fruits and vegetables. Your puppy may be drinking more because of a high salt content in the food you're presently feeding. I personally don't think Hills is the best food on the market. Try changing his food gradually ..... maybe giving him half a serving of Hills mixed with half a serving of Orijen mixed together - then each day just decrease the Hills and increase the Orijen .... using this method of introducing new food to your puppy will lessen the chance of him suffering from runny poos and upset stomach. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

| Hello Again I bought a small amount of Orijen puppy, the shop is not very far and it is not like 2-3 hours to go shopping (the distances here are not like in the big cities, everything is compact in Bulgaria) They sell dog and cat food loose from the big (15kg) bags ,so I bought like 200 grams. Darcy eats 4 meals per day in small portions and he doesn’t chew his food, everything from his bowl disappears in 3-5 seconds followed by a big burp. With his afternoon meal instead of 16 grams of his Hills I put 14 and 2 grams Orijen (kibbles cut in half) he likes it and ate it in 5 sec, 10 minutes after that he throw up some of his food( is this normal and because of the change or..) . First I was shocked and tried to take him away from the pile and clean it but no success and he managed to eat it, this was the second shock. He acts normal doesn’t look sick or anything ,4 hours later I gave him home made yogurt and late at night his regular Hills. Shall I keep trying to change the food or just leave it for a while ant try again after a few days. I did a research and really want to give him the best food I can find here. As a new mommy everything scares me and all things like liver disease and shunt after lepto vaccines … Thank you for your help and advice I appreciate it |

YT 3000 Club Member | It sounds like your little guy is eating too fast maybe, I know they have different kinds of feeders so they done eat so fast. The containers are made so that they cant eat so fast, hope that helps. |

Hi again ! ....... First of all ...... relax and enjoy Darcybaby ... don't get yourself all worked up over this eating issue - with time and patience it will get resolved. Pets have the ability to sense when you're anxious, tense, upset etc and react to your emotions ........ so just relax and Darcybaby will relax too Yes, Darcy is defintely eating way too fast - maybe he had to eat like this so he was sure to get food when he was with his brothers/sisters before you got him? Anyway, YES, you must try to get him changed over from the Hills so every time you feed him give him about half Hills and half Orijen for a few days and then gradually give more Orijen than Hills until you have him completely switched over. I think the reason he threw up was because he gobbled it up so fast. Maybe you could sit with him, at his bowl, and just give him two or three pieces of food at a time to see if you can get him to stop gobbling it all up so fast and see if you can get him to chew his food. He will probably continue to throw up right after eating if he keeps gobbling it up so fast and not chewing it, plus, with not chewing the kibble he's not getting any teeth cleaning benefit which kibble will do while he's chewing. Let us know how you make out

| Thank you all for your replies I hand feed him now so he eats slower, but he throw up twice for one week once in the afternoon after a snack and once at 3am, 6 hours after dinner, and I asked the vet (I have more questions and this is the thread i started) I searched through the posts but I couldn't find something to answer my question . A week ago I've started to change Darcy’s food step by step as was recommended here and I intended to switch him completely for about 10 days. He was on Hills diet and I start mixing some Orijen . I think I’m doing something that is not right because he spits up two times for one week. Am I upsetting his tummy? Or is he sensitive? He is only on dry food, some yogurt in between meals every other day and some cheese from time to time (not much ).I talk to our vet and he said if this continues he may get gastritis and I need to stop his dry food for 10 days and start feeding him only canned, Hills prescription d/d duck formula. I’m not sure this is right and I need your advise ? I don’t want to stop the dry food. Is it Ok to mix them together? I know how much dry he eats but if I start mixing ,do I need to reduce the dry and how much of the canned I have to mix in?(the label on the can stated that ¼ can per day is ok for his weight ) (it’s difficult to find a good vet here ,there are so many of them almost on every corner ,but most of them are like “The dog Is a dog ,don’t need to worry he’ll be fine..) Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You can mix canned and dry together, and yes, you'd decrease the dry. I'm not sure why he's vomiting this often, but I'm almost inclined to say you might want to have some bloodwork done pretty soon. Or, who knows - perhaps his tummy will settle once you can get off of that awful Hills food. It's hard to say. It also sounds like he may be sensitive to *something* else here too - with all of skin/paw licking issues. You may want to consider adding some digestive enzymes and and probiotic (sprinkle on food once per day) - as this can help support the small intestine as well as the tummy. His picture is SO darling, btw!! Is Darcy named after "Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy", btw ?

| Hi again Darcy had two more episodes in two days, both early in the morning . I think this prescription diet (d/d) doesn’t agree with him, Yesterday it was at 5 am and it was like clear liquid, I didn’t see it but his blanket was wet and smelly, same as his mouth and lips ( acidy smell). Today it was around 4 am and it smelled more like baking soda ,yellow color with bits of food (d/d) in it. And two new things when he scratches his hair is falling and he has pimples (like human acne) between his hind legs. I’m going to ask for bloodwork ,but i need to find a new vet first I just want my baby to be healthy Quote:
