| Likes cheese too much Hi, my baby loves to eat cheese and I dont know if is ok for him. However, people who own dogs have told me to give him an egg in the morning and stop giving him cheese. I did but, he will not eat the egg unlees I add cheese to it. Is this ok or not. Please help me. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I would only give a small amount of cheese as a special treat only. He should be eating dog food and not filling up on cheese. If he's eating kibble and the cheese...he may have weight issues later. Mine get egg one day a week...that's it.

| I guess I am kinda confused.... Is he getting an egg for breakfast? Is the egg with his kibble? Does he eat kibble? I would be very careful with the cheese and probably wouldn't feed him any until he began eating his kibble. I give my boys one shred of cheese as a treat, if I am shredding cheese, but I can't imagine giving them much more than that- let alone an ounce per day

| I see lots of people giving cheese but really there are much better treats. A very small amount occasionally shouldn't hurt (and low fat, low sodium cottage cheese can be given in larger amounts...even as a protein source in homecooked meals) but it is high in fat and salt and may cause constipation. Egg yolks are also questionable. If you want to give a people food protein snack and aren't sure what to give, I recommend boiled or baked boneless skinless chicken breast with no fat or seasoning.

| I would only give cheese as a special treat for really good obedience. Cheese is terrible for the teeth because it gets caught in them and leads to tartar (small dogs have enough issues with their teeth without help). It can also contribute to pancreatitis and weight issues. What kind of cheese do you give? What is the dog's regular diet? Cheese and eggs on a regular basis is probably not ideal...I'm surprised you haven't had issues with flatulence/loose stools. Whenever my Goldens get scrambled eggs (with or without cheese) they always end up with the runs and gas that could knock over a steer... Last edited by Bhikku; 11-28-2008 at 09:45 AM. |

| Spike loves cheese, too, but I only give him a little bit when I have some out in the kitchen. It is a very special treat for him, and it never replaces his kibble. He also likes cream cheese, but not as much as my cat does! |
