I Love My Babies Donating Member | Bully Sticks Something to think about... I have found that there is a difference in bully sticks. (I can't believe I am even talking about these things.) TJ got one from a friend several months ago. I would not allow him to have that thing on the couch but he loved it. So being the good mom that I am.... I got several of them from the Health Food Store. They were individually wrapped.. and being from a Health Food Store... I thought.. wow these must be really good ones. Boy was I suprised when I opened one. Yeck!!! Talk about stink !!!!! Those things would have put a skunk to shame !!! I have never smelled anything this putrid in all my life!!! My eyes started watereing and my nose started running.. I was gasping for air. By the time I got that disgusting thing sawed in half (Oh yeah.. I bought the long ones.. because they were cheaper) And of course.. TJ & Sandy wanted it right away. The smell was so disgusting.. I about hurled.... and since I had already told them they could have one... I took them outside and let them have them out there. I went back in and started scrubbing my hands.. 3 different times.. finally with a little bleach.. to get that smell off. Being the wonderful dogs they are...(while I was scrubbing and disinfecting everything.).. they promptly drug them back inside. I finally compromised and let them have those things in their crate and only when we were gone. So now, I had 3 other big ones.. and what was I going to do with them? I paid a lot for them . Wrapped in plastic they didn't smell but unwrap one?!?! I finally decided I would have to throw them away. (No way would I even give them to a friend. I was not going to put anyone else through that.) But being the conservative person I am.. I thought I should at least try some things with them first. So I took them outside.. (NO way was I going to open another one in the house), Put on gloves (Didn't want that smell on my hands again) (looked for a gas mask.. but we don't have any) and took the plastic off. The wasps and a fly that been hanging around.. left. That is how bad that smell was. I left them outside and figured that with lots of time, wind and sun the smell might bake off of them. I didn't even go near them for 4 days. Then I went to get them to see what was happening with the smell. To my suprise... they were gone. Now where could they have gone to? I know the dogs couldn't get to them. And the squirrels weren't that dumb. So I went in and asked my very helpful hubby if he had seen them. And being the wonderful helping hubby that he is... he had noticed them outside and brought them in and put them in a large baggie for me. He thought I had forgotten and left them outside. I thanked him for the help.. then I took them back outside for another few days. Guess what? It worked. They do not smell now. I still do not allow them on the couch.. but they work well for in the crate as a treat while we are gone. So the moral of this story is.. if they come sealed in plastic.. beware. You are much better off with the ones from petsmart or petco that have been out in the open. Your senses will thank you. Hugs, Bobbi

Donating YT 10K Club Member | LOL....got a good chuckle over your post AND your helpful hubby. I usually buy the unwrapped ones...simply because they are less expensive. Still stink when chewed on and wet though.

| Omg, your story brought back memories of the first time I bought those Bully sticks. Thought it was a better alternative to rawhide, but once I let my pup chew on it, it STANK!!! My boyfriend and I were complaining about how terrible the sticks smelled, so we took the dogs outside on the porch to chew on them, and guess what....the smell went through our windows...wonderful. Never again...never again... |

| She is having a sale on the "braided" ones right now! We got one of these and it was great for Moose. He is an aggressive chewer and it was like 3 bullies in one! Here is her post for the sale: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...tick-sale.html

| A lot of the ones I sell are wrapped and some are not wrapped. It doesn't seem to correspond to the smell. I only have sticks are are the low/no odor ones. It varies by brand. Merrick sticks stink, Red Barn stinks... The Free Range and the Premium ones I carry don't stink. They are on my site! My two love their bully sticks. I have to take them away at bedtime or they stay up all night chewing!
