Question about Spaying My 8 month old puppy is getting spayed next Monday. I'm a little bit, no wait, a LOT scared for her since she's my first dog and my best friend. Can anyone suggest any aftercare procedures? I will also ask the vet, but I would like to know some first-hand experiences. Was your pet very lethargic after? Do I need to put any anti-biotics on her stitches? Should I or should I not carry her to help her get into/out of bed? How long until I can bathe and walk her again? Any advice would help! Thanks!

Isoflurane or possibly sevoflurane anesthesia should be used for maintenance. Surgery should be done on a heated surface. She should have an IV. Preop blood work should be done. She should be just fine.

My 8 month old Tessa was spayed a couple of weeks ago and she did fine. They kept her 2 nights which made me crazy but they have 24 hour care. I had her Vet do the inside stitches cause I knew she would chew on them, she is very very hyper...But they had her on morphine the 1st day and sent her home with pain meds (Remadyl) which made her a little tired but quieted her down. She was back to herself within 2 days...she also had 3 teeth pulled. Everything is back to normal but I'm sure glad it is over...I actually worried more than I needed to...which is what I always do...lol

Thanks for your replies. I'm sure my girl will be ok, just a bit nervous for her.
