9 weeks old-bathing issue Hi everyone, we're new to this forum. Sprinkels is 9 weeks old. Today I gave her a second bath using a puppy tearless shampoo. Although I was extra careful in getting the right water temperature, etc. trying to make her experience as pleasurable as it can get, she still hated it. After I dried her out, she continued shaking/shievering for about 30 minutes. Any suggestions? We appreciate your help!

My Daisy does the same thing. I finally figured a way that is not so stressful on her. I put about 4 inchs of warm water with shampoo in the kitchen sink. I swish it all up and then just use a cup to slowly wet her down. If I leave the water running she freaks out. I just put the shampoo on her and very gently lather her up, and talk to her constantely. When I rinse her I barely turn the water on a fill a cup and pour it over her till she's rinsed. She seems to do pretty good doing it this way.

Jenny, Thats exactly what I did. I guess it just takes some time to get used to getting clean :-) Sprinkles is sitting in her plat pen and is very very quiet (which is highly unusual for this very cheerful puppy!)

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Sprinkles is a CUTE name! Pups take a little while to get use to baths. I've had Rebel for 7 weeks (he's 13 weeks) and just gave him his 3rd bath yesterday. Too much can ruin their coat so be careful. He is getting more tolerate and a bath but he'll still try to commit suicide by jumping out of the sink so I have to be careful. Your baby will get use to it...it just takes time. Would love to see picts!

| Yup! It takes them time to get used to it. If they cry, don't stop doing what you're doing or they'll learn that crying gets you to stop. I started bathing Kacee at 6 weeks. She cried. I was the mean one and kept going irregardless of her crying. And boy did she cry and carry on about the blow-dryer and it was on low! The second time she peed on me, but I kept going. Now she's fine with it at 19 weeks old tomorrow. Of course, there are other places she'd rather be than in the tub, but she doesn't cry. She's a trooper. The blow dryer is no longer an issue. She lays in my lap and enjoys it.

I think it just takes doing it over and over but you do need to keep them warm at all times and keep the shivering to a minimum. Try to use really warm water without it being hot and then use the blow dryer right away until she is dry completely. Even put a robe or a sweater on her if you have one after. I always put Ava's warm hoodie on her after her bath. I f not, wrap her in a towel and use your body heat to keep her warm. If these little ones get chilled they can get sick very quickly. I am sure she will be used to it soon and lovin' it...well, maybe not LOVIN' it exactly, but tolerating it...

The most favorite part of my yorkies' baths is the warm towel they get wrapped in! While I'm bathing each dog, I have a towel in the dryer heating up. Someone else in the family gets it for me when I'm almost finished rinsing out the conditioner/detangler. After they are wrapped in their warm towel, they don't MOVE! They know its the big reward!! I leave them wrapped until the warmth is gone from the towel. This afternoon after I bathed Sebastian, he got the special warm towel treatment and then was blow-dryed. He was still shaking afterward so I wrapped him in a fleece blanket and held him on my lap until he was all warm and toasty again. Lisa Carter's Mom (*forgot Michelle was logged in*)

I just bathed Sadie yesterday for the first time. She wasn't real thrilled with it either. I tried to do it as quickly as possible. I used the bathroom sink and put a rubbermaid mat in the sink so she wouldn't slide around. I had 2 towels and we went outside after I bathed her. It was horribly hot and humid out yesterday and so it was great to sit out there and hold her and keep her warm until she stopped shaking. I switched towels after a little while so that she was in a dry towel. She seemed to be ok after that. She started to run around and shake and I combed her. Then in a little while she ate and curled up in my lap for a nice nap.

All the advice here is great so I have nothing to add to that. When I bathe Preslee though I always put a warm hoddie or a bathrobe on her afterward to help keep her warm. Then after a little while I change her into something different so she isn't damp.

What a great idea - the warm towel. I am going to "steal" that idea from you. My 2 little ones will be so thankful..... They just shiver and shake after their baths, but after reading this.. those days are over!! haha THANKS SO MUCH!!!
