Yorkie food

Does anybody have any opinions about Royal Canin? I bought a bag of it when I brought my new puppy home, but only because that was what the breeder had been using, and I didn't want to stress him out with too many changes at first. I use Nutro for my cats but have no idea what is better for tiny dogs.

Thanks Yorkieangel

I've used this once. My yorkie dosen't really care. I always buy her a premium food. She gets tired of the same thing so about every 3 months I get her something different I always buy Lamb & Rice formula though no matter what I get. I don't think every premium food has this. I'm pretty sure the Royal Canin dosen't have it in Lamb & Rice I could be wrong though.

The last I bought for Mollie was Eukanuba (?) the small bites and she likes it very well.

Good Luck.

if your looking to fatten em up you can use royal canine for awhile, but then i would switch, to something that is less in fat because you don't want your baby becoming overweight. i use "authority harvest baked" it is a petsmart brand and it's all natural no corn or by products in it. and he looves it! alot of members had the same experience with rc and itching now my coco hardly itches from me changing his diet and his shampoo hope this helps..

We had a great discussion about this on this thread-I bet you can still see it. I use RC-I switched my babies to it a few months ago. Just the other day I read and article explaining how to tell if a dog food is a good one. Honestly, RC isn't that wonderful if you look at the ingredients. It's alright, but it's not as good as some of the others.

I plan to switch to Chicken Soup soon.

there are a lot of topics on food on this forum if you just do a little research. just type in royal canin in the search.. and you'll see what are some good types of foods to give your dogs.

Question Yorkie food

My friend and I have a total of 14, Yes, 14! Yorkies and this is the best thing we've found so far.
We mix Royal Canin for Yorkies with Iam's or whatever, we would like to find a kibble with less fat.
We buy skinless chicken breasts at Costco and bake that and cut it up.
Then, we order a dehydrated raw diet from a company in Oregon and use that to kind of stick it all together.
Also a little shredded cheddar for Calcium and taste.
I noticed since we started using the dehydrated raw food, their eyes stay a lot cleaner. (we used to use a little canned dog food, instead)
I also found out that if there is red color in the food, their tears will stain much more. and carrots stain also. That's what our handler told us. Interesting. I also heard the same thing at a dog show. What do you all think?

Default food

Well I ended up getting Wellness brand puppy food today. Not sure exactly how good it is!!!!! The pieces are a bit larger than Royal Canin, but they crunch much easier, kind of like crunching a piece of Captain Crunch .....LOL

if anybody has any opinions about Welness, please let me know.

Thanks,
Yorkieangel

Royal Canin has a great advertising department.. but their food is way high in protein...there are many other ones, that are much better. Innova, Wellnes,, Wysong and Candaide to name a few

Thumbs up

I have been feeding Moose RC puppy since I brought her home and for the past few months been mixing it with Petsmart Authority Oven Baked (very good food in my opinion...read many lables, just make sure it's oven baked) anyway I was lazy a many weeks ago and just gave her the Oven Baked...well I have since come to figure that the RC was what was makeing moose puke. I have been giving her the Oven Baked lamb by itself since then and with the exception of her drinking too fast and puking she has had no more food puking issues.

I do have a question to pose though, she is 7 months old should I get a bag of the puppy oven baked and mix with the adult kind or just stick with the adult kind.

Archie loves royal canin, and I know it's not the super premium I should be feeding him, but I feed him super premium wet food (I switch between innova and wellness. I've done a lot of research on food and innova is the best, and wellness is OK) and figure that it's OK if his dry food is not "perfect" as long as he's eating it. Right now, I kinda wanted him to eat other premium dry foods, so he's eating a blend of royal canin and chicken soup for the dog lover's soul (dry).

I have pet food company issues, though. A lot of these super-premium companies are small companies which can be unreliable meaning they can go out of business or stuff is hard to find, and some of their foods can be really inconsistent. Second of all, I have doubts about some of the actual food content. Third of all, I believe that some of them lie. Yes, lie. I found out, for example, that some companies that make super premium foods, also make cheaper brands with questionable meat and are sort of jumping on the "superpremium bandwagon." How do I know that the super premium brand contains the best meat? It's not like I eat the stuff! Plus...it's a little hard for me to believe that they can put such good meat in the stuff and still charge us the same amount of money as the "bad" stuff. Simple economics tells me it's not the best meat, probably a little less beak or hoof in there...

As for the big pet food companies, I don't think I even need to start my gripe on that. So, I'm trying to find some place in the middle, where I feel comfortable. I feel comfortable with Innova. They're big enough and they don't make lesser quality food on the side.

royal canin is not the best, but it's not the worst, either. They have one or two not-the-best ingredients, but it's not three or four not-so-best ones. and chicken soup is good, too. Archie seems to like it but not as much as RC.

I tend to like companies that produce a limited number of brands. RC is manufactured all over the world, so they have to stick to the international standards, and most EU countries have higher standards for meat than the US. Plus, they only make RC and seem to do a lot of research on this stuff. Archie likes the small kibbles, too, and I don't think it's too fattening, but I also take Archie out a lot and he gets loads of exercise.
