Yorkie heaving and vomiting poo-like clumps

Hello! I'm new to the community, and have many questions. This one is the most pressing. About once a week, my otherwise perfectly healthy and active yorkie will begin heaving until finally he vomits a clump of brown, soft poo-like substance. This event can happen at anytime. I have not been able to tie the event to any particular cause. He has had all his shots, I give him Interceptor every month, he's been neutered, and has a very healthy appetite.

Capn' Jack is one year old and eats Pedigree for puppies, with occasional snacks, ie. carrots, chicken, etc... He normally poops twice a day, which I suppose is normal(?). It always looks like a normal poop.

You might want to ask a vet about it if its that frequent. Mine do the same thing occasionally. I quess their stomachs are just upset when they do

Unless he's eating his poo, some do, I would suspect it's the food.
Pedigree is not a good quality food for a Yorkie, I don't believe.
Do a seach here on YT. You will find many high quality foods that
will keep your baby healthy.
There have been many threads regrading foods and what are good
and what are not so good. I hope someone can find the threads for
you.

Welcome to you and Jack!

I'm gonna say it's his food. Pedigree is not a good food and it could be a build up of the bi products in his system until he finally has to get it out- by puking. I highly recommend you change foods- but slowly. If you are looking for a new food to try there are many great kinds- Orijen, Wellness and Natural Balance just being a few.
Otherwise- you dont' think his stomach is empty right? Layla will do something similar and throw up a yellow foam if her tummy is empty- I can usually tell when this is going to happen ebcause her stomach makes A LOT of noise- and then i'll give her some pro biotic yogurt which really settles it down and stops the throwing up. However, I honestly think it could be the food. Maybe someone else will come on with other suggestions.

I agree with the above post. Pedegree is full of fillers. Natural Ballance is a great food. I though Iams was one of the best. You'll lern alot from the people on this site and online. Your vet can be another resource. Petsmart gave me coupons and I tried the Natural Ballance , they're so much better on it. Their tool is not smelly and solid and not as frequent. Their coat is much fuller and shiny. I use their treats also.

I agree w/ the others in terms of switching foods asap.

This is going to sound super gross, but does the vomit "smell" like poo? If so, he may be eating his own poo, which can make them vomit. Switching to a better food can often help this -- but depending upon how long it's been going on, it may be a habit you need to break as well by using something like Solid Gold's S.E.P. .

it is probably the food...
ours used to do the yellow foam vomit when he ate kibble
for years already, we only homecook for him and no more doggie treats... just fresh fruit and balkan style yogurt and no more vomitting

I would try switching his food. There is a list of the more recommended brands at the top of this section. (At least the brands recommended by YT members.)

(dogfoodanalysis.com is a great site to use to get info on the ingredients, but it's written based on the opinions of the site editors, not long term professional research--research the nutrition your little one really needs rather than just picking something that someone gave 'top ratings')

If your little one is eating poop...gross, but some dogs do it...you may want to try feeding him some pineapple or adding the juice to his food. A pretty commonly suggested remedy to the problem...hopefully it will work for you.

I don't know if dogs get hair balls but my cat used to puke up hair balls that looked just like poop. You may want to ask the vet about this.

Hi Guys!
I'm new here, and I have a couple of questions about Baylee. He is 7 months old, and he weighs 2.9 lbs. He eats twice a day (Solid Gold's Hodjken Flocken-if I spelled it correctly ). Well on last Wednesday, I noticed that Baylee threw up a yellow, clear substance. He plays regularly, runs, jumps, hides...everything else he normally does-even after this episode. Last night, I noticed that he vomited some of his food and then he ate it before I could stop him. So....This morning around 3 a.m. he wanted out of his bed, because he pooped in it, and it was a soft stool-not solid as it usually is. I immediately cleaned the area, cleaned all of his toys, and washed the plush ones. I did not put his food down for him, and only left the water. When I woke up this morning, he threw up again-yellow, clear substance. I've only left the water down-no food. I plan to go home on my lunch break and take him to the vet if this worsens. What are your suggestions? Any of your own, prior experiences similar to this one? PLEASE ADVISE...Thanks-Stan

Hey Stan. Poor Baylee. You probably need to start your own thread to get a fair shot at replies

As for Baylee, I would say he needs to see a vet this afternoon. He is pretty small and these little guys can go downhill super fast. Go ahead and get him in and lets get this baby back to new.

I have had *lots* of experience with GI problems (unfortunately) and we actually were able to link Ranger's intolerance with an ingredient in his food. His problems started right around the same age as Baylee's, maybe a bit sooner. We were at the vet at least once a month for 5 or so months for these tummy troubles.
