| Home cooked food amounts? This is the week I start home cooking for my babies but I haven't found any information on what amounts to feed. Does anyone have that information? How much do you feed and how many times a day for say...dogs under 15 pounds? I also have a pregnant female but I plan to just supplement her puppy food with some of the home cooked food. |

| I think you should consult with a nutritionist regarding amounts, supplements and ingredients. We hired a nutritionist to prepare a "menu" for our lab who has severe food allergies. There was a lot of supplements (vitamins and minerals) she added to the diet as normal foods don't contain enough of everything to be a balanced diet. Good luck! I can't wait to hear how things go!

| Thank you...I already have the diet in place as set forth by one of the leading vets in the country. I just need to know how much and how often to feed fresh food. |

| Start with feeding 1/4 cup twice a day for a week or two. If they gain any weight then they need more exercise. It all depends on the activity level of the dog. If they lose, then increase from 1/4 cup twice a day to an additonal 1/8 cup. Just keep the weight and exercise in control.

| I would suggest calculating the number of calories in the recipe and finding a chart online showing how many calories per pound of dog is optimal. I would try to get as close to that as possible if there is no guideline iwth your recipe. Spayed and neutered pets may require about 30% less food. For Ellie's recipe, her nutritionist said she may need up to 50% more or 50% less. She was very skinny so I added 50%. She filled out and I didn't want her to keep gaining, so I cut back again. It is really trial and error. Ellie gets probably somewhere around a cup of food a day and she is 6 pounds. She is fed 3x daily. With the amount of food she needs, I think two meals would be too big for her and it is better for her health issues to feed less more often anyway.
