My Yorkie has dry flakey skin Hello everyone, My 5 month old Yorkie has had dry/flakey skin for the past month, it seems to be itchy because he will scratch from time to time. Any suggestions on what I can do to help clear it up?

| Douxo calm shampoo. I got it at the vet, but it is not prescription. Cured Baby Chloe's dry flakey skin in 2 shampoos.

well it could be the food- is chicken the main protien? Layla is HIGHLY allergic to chicken as are many dogs and if she has even a bite- she is an itching fool You should try and higher quality- fish based food. I also used to put quick oatmeal in the end of a nylon- tie it off and use it as a sponge during the bath- it REALLY helped her skin. Also you can try adding Vitamin E and Omegas to her food- just using the human type and squeezing a few drops on her food.

Natural Balance I read from this forum, lots of yorkie owners feed NB duck and potato or venison and potato and based on their testimonials, it helps to reduce the itchy problems. Eukanuba, IMO, is not really a high quality dog food. I myself cook for my yorkie and maltese. I also feed them Orijen adult dog food. It's one of the best Canadian pet food (guess you live in Canada). Here I am attaching pics of Kenzo. You can see how his coat is so shiny!!!

My yorkie, Hobbs, had the WORST dry flakey skin. The one and only thing that cleared it up was switching his food to Natural Balance Duck & Potato.

try this.. 1. if it is allergy, the itching and scratching should come after a certain thing: a meal, touching a blanket, etc. A very good way to rule out allergies is to do a bloodtest for this. If so, there are many high quality foods you can give. Mine is allergic to veal and lamb... LAMB is usually prescribed for allergic dogs... and guess what our was scratching her even more often 2. use high quality shampoo, for sensitive skin. That works for us and she is bathing every week. Buy it from a pet farmacy (no Petland, etc) /tiberius
