| how long ago did she see a vet? I'm sure they checked her before she was adopted out, but one thing i worry about if she hasn't been seen in a while, apart from pregnancy, is any kind of heart problems which can manifest as panting at rest and worsening with exertion. in an older dog who was rescued, she's at higher risk. are there certain times or positions that make it better or worse?

A trip to the vet is in order. You definitely need to find out if she is pregnant or not. At her age and if she has any other health issues, a pregnancy could be very risky. | |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom has always been a heavy panter even as a puppy. When she started with heart problems she wouldn't lay down and kept looking up, which my vet knew right away was congestive heart failure. If she has been panting since you got her maybe it is normal for her, if not I would have the vet check her out. Good luck.

| No, I saw her in the situation and knew she needed out. I have called the authorities and they are 'looking in to it'. The ppl used her for nothing more than breeding. She had never been in a house before here! lived in a kennel outside! I have a friend that was a vet tech and I'm gonna have her look her over.. I think she may have been over-heated.. living outside for 8 yrs then coming in with a heater might have been a bit much for her.. I am letting it cool down a lil in the house and she seems fine now! I was doing a lot of cooking earlier so maybe that was it?!?!
