♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | Are tomatoes ok?? Bella only ever eats her food (or the occasional good quality treat), though she is VERY interested in what we're eating (no surprise there!) Sometimes when I'm eating something I think it would be ok for her to try, I let her taste it to see if she likes it. Tonight I was eating some "jellybean" tomatoes off my plant in my courtyard (they are smaller than grape). Anyway, I let her try one and she at the whole thing, so I gave her one more. Is there any reason she can't have a tiny tomato now and then?? She has also tried grapes (loves to lick, but won't eat, even if I peel it!), apple chunks (she loves those!), cheese (again, yummm!), popcorn (nope, but kettle corn she loves....she stole that when I dropped it though , don't want her eating sugar!)...that's all I can think of. I'm thinking of seeing how she likes yogurt so I'd have an easy way to mix in powdered meds if I need to. I guess I should get plain yogurt and not flavored?? Also, I never give her more than just a teeny bit of any of those....she isn't a big eater anyway, so I don't want that to fill her up and her not eat any of her own nutritious food. (I think she likes her food, at least she did really like it, she just doesn't eat much. Some days she'll eat her breakfast and her dinner [I divide her daily amount, 1/2 c, in half, and set it out twice a day allowing her to eat whenever she wants], some days, like today, it's 7:30PM and she's only eaten a couple of pieces of her breakfast. When she does this, she usually will eat all of her breakfast right before bedtime, though. I've even tried hand feeding it to her tonight since it's still there, but she doesn't want it. About 30 min. after I tried that, she grabbed one piece and ate it, but that was it! I would switch her food to something else if I thought that would help, but truly, she just doesn't want to eat, period! She'd probably eat more if I switched her food to something new every day, but.....) |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Grapes are very poisonous to dog's Please do not Give those to her. "Grapes & Raisins: Though it isn't clear to scientists just what makes grapes and raisins toxictoxictoxic to both cats and dogsdogsdogs, even a relatively small amount can damage the kidneys. For this reason it's unwise to feed these to your pet, even if small amounts are tolerated. Also avoid giving bits of cookie or other foodsfoodsfoods that contain raisins." Tomatoes also. "Tomatoes and tomato plants: Tomatoes of all kinds are toxic to cats, as are parts of the tomato plant. Ingesting as little as a cherry tomato can cause severe gastrointestinal upset" |

After reading that I won't give her anymore grapes...before I have read on here and on other sites as well that they have only been found to cause problems in large amounts. I guess it's better not to take a chance, though.... | |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | She doesn't like carrots Well, she likes to chew them to bits all over the floor, but not actually eat them! What a mess!! (I doubt she'll ever get to the point of needing to lose weight the way she eats ) |

| I do know that the buds of tomatoes are poisionous, but Kayah eats tomatoes all the time, we do take off the skin, though. She has never once had a problem, and she prefers those over carrots I hope we're not harming her by doing this, but I had always thought tomatoes are ok, just not the plant itself especially the bud. idk

| Real food ! Our little Oliver is 11 and he eats all of our food ... He used to eat many of the most expensive dog foods and get sick every morning. He is Happy and Healthy since he does not eat those bags of kibble.. Who really knows what it is... and look over the last few years how many pets died from the stuff ? We are Thankful we changed his diet way before that.. Oliver eats tomatoes and is fine..cooked and raw. he also eats most fresh veggies except for carrots. and lean beef and free range lean chicken breast (no skin or bones) occassionally lamb and loves fish... and then he also get with that rice or pasta ... snacks are fruit, cheese and plain real yogurt ... we use the ratio 1/3 veggies 1/3 meat fish or chicken 1/3 pasta or rice. he is not over weight and eats with gusto in days gone by dogs ate stew ..the dog stew was beef stew chunks of beef with gravy potatoes and peas...it smelled good and dogs loved it... it was actually the same one they made for people in the can ..just a cheaper price! we do not buy the nutrition in a bag plan...since feeding him real food his coat and skin has improved greatly along with his immunity... |
