| Past Canidae Users....What do you use now? I am curious what foods others have switched to after the formulation change with canidae? Their big bag is about ready to run out, and 2 of the 3 have had diahrhea with the new formulation.....so what to switch to is the question??? Thanks!!

| We switched to Innova. I've been trying to cook for them as much as possible or feed them canned (I like NV) but they are *starving* in the morning (yeah right) so they like me to just throw kibble in their bowls. Also I've heard mixed reviews about the new Canidae. Some like you have issues and some don't. I've heard that if you switch gradually like you would to a new food they are fine. I switch them all the time anyway so I just switched. We've done Taste of the Wild, Orijen... I like the Innova though.

| We are still with Canidae. We mixed our old with our new slowly and had no issues at all.

| They were using Royal Canine, then Canadae old formula. I had mixed them together but they can never get away from Royal Canine. Then switch from Canadae to Chicken Soup and Royal Canine. They actually picked out all the Chichen Soup and Canadae out of the bowl, littered it all over the floor near the bowl and only ate their Royal Canine. So I switched to Primal Raw and they love the Primal Raw. They've been eating the Primal Raw (Chicken) for 2 months now and I've noticed their hair is silkier and skin rashes is going away (for Squeekie). Last edited by wookie; 10-19-2008 at 08:23 PM. |

| Canidae I've just been reading up on the reviews for Canidae and found out about the formula and quality changes and I'm so disappointed! We went to visit family yesterday and Maggie went crazy for her 'cousin' Emily's canidae - I mean nuts!!! She never goes for dry food and she loved it!! It's disappointing to hear of the formula change because I was about to run out today and buy a bag for her! Is anyone happy with Canidae despite the changes? I've also heard good things about Merrick but the fact that 'Whole Garlic' is listed in the ingredients is a bit of a worry - garlic can be toxic to dogs, right?

| We switched to Life's Abundance and the girls are doing very well on it. I had to buy a bag of Canidae lately and the girls would hardly eat it. They do not like the new ingredients.

| Hi Lisa We switched to Natural Balance. Abby's eyes have watered less since the switch..could be coincidence, but I think it's the change in food They are on the duck and potatoe right now. Tammy

| I am home cooking. I just don't trust ANY kibble company any more. With all the recalls and all of the issues with products from China - when you buy kibble you just never know. I should edit the above to say that I am working towards home cooking for all the kids - right now 6 of them are home cooked. The others are eating a high quality kibble that I bought to "carry us over" until deer season opens and I am able to feed venison. Last edited by chattiesmom; 10-20-2008 at 05:50 PM. |

| Thanks everyone for all your replies! I just purchased Nature's Raw today to try and also, Merrick's Before Grain B4. My goodness Winston gobbled both down like nothing I have ever seen!! He LOVED both! Chattiesmom, also, what a WONDERFUL idea with the venison. My son got his first deer last year, and that idea just never occured to me!! I will have to try that!! Thanks again everybody!!

| Did Canidae change the formula on all its foods??? How do I miss these things? How can I tell by looking at my bag if it's old formula or new formula????? Yikes, I really don't like to mess with Bernie's food.

| Gingergirlsmom, I just copied a post from a Labrador Retriever site: I hope this helps answer your questions. Upcoming changes to Canidae formulations Admin | June 30, 2008 3:56 pm I wanted to give a heads up to dog owners feeding Canidae products about a few details that the makers of this product aren't telling you in their sales pitch for their changed formulas: Under the new formulation, Canidae dry foods will no longer be gluten free, due to the addition of barley. If you know that your dog is gluten intolerant, start shopping around for a different food. Even if your dog doesn't have problems with gluten (not all do, and many foods do contain high-gluten grains like barley), the change in formulation to include rice bran and peas may contribute to gas and digestive upset. Dogs who aren't particularly sensitive may not have any problems at all, others will get over it within a few days of transitioning, but again, for individuals with a delicate digestive system, expect that they may no longer tolerate the product. Millet is generally well tolerated, but again, it doesn't work for every dog. "Diversifying" ingredients may sound catchy, and Canidae certainly has made an effort to put a positive spin on it in their statement, but please remember that not all dogs do well on foods that include a wide variety of items. Also note that "Herring Meal" will be replaced by generic "Ocean Fish Meal", meaning the company reserves the possibility to use different fish from batch to batch without having to change the ingredient list. This has not been addressed in their statement at all. Whether these changes are indeed an improvement, as Canidae claims, is for you to decide - after observing how it affects your dog. Canidae All Lifestages Old Formula: http://canidae.com/do...http://img1.dev.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif New Formula: http://canidae.com/do...http://img1.dev.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif Canidae Platinum Old Formula: http://canidae.com/do...http://img1.dev.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif New Formula: http://canidae.com/do...http://img1.dev.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif Canidae Chicken & Rice (Note that after the change it's no longer going to be a true "Chicken and Rice" formula, but instead a "Chicken, Rice, Barley and Peas" formula) Old Formula: http://canidae.com/do...http://img1.dev.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif New Formula: http://canidae.com/do...http://img1.dev.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif Canidae Lamb & Rice New Formula: http://canidae.com/do...http://img1.dev.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif The old formula has already been overwritten. "Lamb and Rice" formula will now also be a misnomer - even though it's legal as far as labeling regulations go. This is the current ingredient list: Lamb Meal, Brown Rice, Canola Oil (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Flax Seed, Sun cured Alfalfa Meal, Sunflower Oil, Lamb, Lecithin, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Linoleic Acid, Rosemary Extract, Sage Extract, Dried Enterococcus Faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Oryzae Fermentation Extract, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Extract, Inulin (from Chicory Root), Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Fermentation Solubles, L-Lysine, Taurine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Mixed Tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (source of Vitamin B2), Beta Carotene, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Calcium Iodate, Folic Acid, D-Biotin, Organic Selenium, Dried Papaya, Dried Pineapple, Vitamin B12 Supplement
