| Benadryl shot? I took the puppies in for their core vaccine shot(suspose to be 1 shot ) and I caught them giving the pup 2 shots. I freaked and asked why 2 shots and they said the first was a benadryl shot to help with the side effects. They never asked or told me about this till it was done and I was freaking ,has anyone else had this happen? Should I tell them no before the next set of shots? |

| The only time Stella has received a Benadryl shot was when she had an allergic reaction to a insect bite. I hope someone has more information for you |

| Sunshine was only 1 1/2 lbs when we brought her home and after her first shot she had a reaction, so they now always give her benadryl prior to her shots

YT 2000 Club Member | My vet gives my 3 Yorkies a shot of Anti-Histamine before giving any vaccine at all just to be on the safe side. He also does it at NO charge, because he feels its better safe than sorry with how small they are. He did tell us though before giving the shots what it is he is giving them. I think that your vet should of told you before giving the shot of anti-histamine so you would not of had to worry what was going on with the 2 shots. I do think that you should still get the anti- histamine shot at your next visit though, I would rather have that peise of mind knowing precaution was taken to keep your pup safe from reactions in the first place.

| It is fine that the vet did that but they were giving a medication and should've asked for consent. They did wait about 15 minutes between shots, right?

| Both of mine got the benedry shot before thier vaccines as well, but i was asked if it was okay, they said it was a precaution because of their tiny size. They waited 15 minutes before giving them any injections. They did fine with it.

| The first time Asha had her shots, she had a mild reaction. Irritability and soreness. After talking with the vet, he recommended Children's Benadryl by mouth, and stated the next time, prior to shots, they would give Benadryl injections. However, I soon discovered if the injections are broken up, and given a week apart, the reaction is much less severe. I took her to a different vet the next time her shots were due. He supported giving one shot at a time, a week apart, and she has done fine since, without Benadryl shots or by mouth.
