| It just won't go away... :( (long.. Sorry) Ok, So I've had Zoe now for about 3 weeks. When I first got in touch with the breeder she mentioned she had a bit of a runny nose but that she thought she would be ok. Well, the vet said I had to wait because she was congested. I had to wait about 2 weeks. She got better and finally I was able to take her. Well, when I got her she was coughing and sneezing constantly. Sounded like she was choking or had something stuck in her throat. I continued to give her Clavamox (I think that's how you spell it) and she seemed to get better and then it would come back. I took her to the vet for her shots and she gave me a cough suppresent. I gave that to her and it seemed to get better and then again, it would come back. I had to go back to the vet and get another round of cough suppresents. Well, now I am almost done with the Clavamox so I took her in on Friday and the vet said she seems to be getting better and just to finish the clavamox and after that just keep an eye on her. Well, now she is coughing and sneezing AGAIN. It's so frustrating. I don't know what to do. She will stop and just cough, and cough and cough. She sounds congested but the vet said she wasn't. I've read that it takes a while for their colds to go away but Sheesh. It's nerve wrecking. Especially since I have to work and only come see her during lunch. Has anyone else gone thru this? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Poor little Zoe . Was she diagnosed w/ Kennel Cough, then? Do you know if she was vaccinated WITH that shot? If so, the shot is what gave her the respiratory infection, just so you know. Knowing that, I would never get that vax again - if it were me. Personally, I do not get this vax for my dogs - only the core vaccines. Kennel cough can indeed take several () weeks for pups to get over, so hang in there. It's very good that your vet is giving cough medicine, bc it can be exhausting for these pups to cough constantly - plus, it inhibits their sleep which is not good. Kennel Cough can progress to pneumonia, so you and your vet do want to keep an eye on it - which you're already doing.

YT 1000 Club Member | Kennal cough in these little dogs is the worst. Roxie had it when I got her and it lasted forever. I'd say about 3-4 months for the cough to be gone completely. I think it scarred her larynyx because she's never been able to bark loud since. Her bark sounds like a whisper or like she's horse. The vet x-rayed her and checked her out very well and never could find anything to explain her quiet bark. She's healthy now but it makes you realize how fragile these little balls of fire can be! 2 things you can do is run a hot steamy shower and sit in the bathroom with her letting her breath in the steam. Also you can tap her sides (around the area where her lungs are) with 2 fingers one side at a time several times a day. Hope she feels better soon! |
