| Scooting his butt Okay so Wrigley has been scooting his butt on the ground! He is an a deworming medicine (not because he ever had them or anything, just a preventative). I've looked at his poop just to make sure and everything. Is he just itchy? |

| He needs his anal glands expressed, as most small breeds do. You can have it done at your vet or groomer.

| Scooting can occur if you have recently groomed him in the anal area.

| It's very easy to do. It's kind of gross, but I have disposable latex gloves for that and other nasty jobs. My girlgriend helped me do Bella's last Saturday. She showed me how you can feel and tell if it needs to be done.

| I've been meaning to post something about this too. Zoe is doing this lately. A LOT. She just recently was checked for worms and doesn't have any. What is "Expressed"? Latex gloves? AHhh.. Don't think I can do it.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey had a scooting problem when he was a puppy, and the vet showed me how to do it, a word of warning, if not done correctly you can push the contents further up the canal and cause a serious infection. It use to be thought that this should be done regularly, but now they believe if a dog doesn't need it there is no need to do it. So only do it if your dog is scooting, and the area looks slightly puffy. I would recommend having a vet show me how to do it the first time. Good video!

| Hi, sometimes the dog will scoot because he has been groomed. I have had vets who tell me that if the dogs poop is firm then his body is taking care of expressing the glands. I have been told that once you manually start expressing that the dogs body then stops doing it on its own Zander is 2 and I've never had to do this for him, same for Jazzie so proceed with caution and informed. Here is a link to some info about clearing the glands .... Dog Anal Glands - LoveToKnow Dogs

| I know it's a repulsive thought, but it's not really that bad. Like Nancy said you do have to be careful, but you can tell by feeling the puffy areas where it is, and you just massage it down as you squeeze, it doesn't hurt them at all. It is indeed gross, but I have three now, so I'll cut costs where I have to!
