| drinking lots of water and... Hello. My wife and I just got a yorkie, Pippin. He'll be 9 weeks old on Saturday, 9/27. We noticed that he's been drinking a lot more water than usual today. Also, when he goes, there seems to be a little less stool than normal (that is, he may be constipated). The only thing I can think of that may be causing this (aside from something serious) is that we recently stopped watering down his dry food; he's now on actually dry dry food. My thinking is that his young system may not be able to handle the dry food yet, and this could be causing him to be a bit constipated and more thirsty. Has anyone heard anything about this possibility? Today is the first day that this has been happening, so we haven't considered a visit to the vet yet, but we will if it continues. Any thoughts? Thanks! |

| Hey there, I personally do not consider drinking more water as bad - logically, a living being can't have too much water can they? Yes, the water in his food may have caused him to drink less water before, but if you're not watering his food now and he's drinking more water, I do not see anything wrong with it. As far as I know, dogs do not know how much water they should be drinking, so that watering their kibble is GOOD, as kibble absorb water in their stomach. Unless you are feeding them food with citric acid as preservatives. You should not water these - they will cause bloat when mixed with water. Aside from that, more water is not a concern, at least according to what I've read. You can read this here: The Dog Food Project - Nutrients: Water Quote from the same site: Quote:
Tell me if I've explained things nicely If not I will try again, or others here will be much better at this than I am | |

| I would make sure to feed a puppy formula. Good quality food does cause less stools. Is the puppy playful? content?
