| luxating patella questions I was wondering what percentage of Yorkies have luxating patellas. Do the good reputable breeders breed dogs that have luxating patellas? All of the contracts and guarantees I've seen so far don't cover minor knees problems, only the severe problems, if at all. If a good breeder has a dog with a level one luxating patella, do they breed them anyway? I guess I'm wondering if it's possible to find very good knees at this point. Thank you for any answers. |

A truly good breeder will not breed a dog with LP. However, Layla came from a great breeder.. neither parent had LP.. and Layla has stage 2... while it can be genetic... it is also something that this breed is prone to and can happen just from jumping off the couch.... I think that is why breeders are hesitant to put it in the health contract because it can happen just from running.... | |

| I always advise Yorkie buyers to never let their Yorkie JUMP! I know how hard it is to stop them so prevention is the best cure. Train them to use steps or a small foot stool to help the climb up and down from chair, couch or whatever. Their little knees can be perfect and they can develop a habit of jumping and end up with a Grade 2-4 luxation... |

| Is LP so common that it is difficult to find a yorkie or parents without it? If it's genetic, not an injury, at what age does it usually show up? |
