| Weird eating habits Baxter will eat very little one day and the next day he will eat like crazy. One day he'll eat a few kibbles and the next he cleans the bowl. Does anyone else have a yorkie like that? He weighs 7 lbs. at 9 mos. old and he never seems to be sick from not eating. I think he is just weird. BTW - i free-feed. And he gets treats in the morning when I leave to go to work. |

| MAYBE he doesn't like the taste of his kibble very much that's why he eats just a little. But the next day he feels very hungry so he has no choice but to eat a lot. Just a wild guess But the problem when dogs don't eat the right amount of food at the right time or schedule is that they can become acidic. There was a time my puppy hasn't eaten in 9hrs. she threw up a yellowish fluid. So now I feed her 4 times a day, every 6 hrs. Btw, I do not free-feed, I noticed when there's an abundance of food in her bowl she loses interest in eating. But when there's just an ample amount she eats like crazy and cleans out her bowl. I also do not give treats very often or regularly and when I do I just give a tiny piece because she'd prefer to eat treats more than her kibble.

| I too have a similar issue with Duke. The amount of food he eats varies each day and I also free-feed him. I'm just concern that he's not getting enough food. He's 11 months and around 5.5lbs. He's not throwing up or anything that sort that I notice but I am concern.....

| My dog was weird too..... My yorkie Dax is now 20 months old and until 3 months ago he ate this way too. I used to change foods often and have 2 or 3 kinds on hand trying to get him to eat. He would eat one good meal every 2-3 days ( I can't free feed cause I have two dogs). No matter what I tried he never was an eater. About once a week he would go so long without eating that he would throw up yellow fluid. I began to research dog foods extensively and found several websitses looking for "picky dogs" or something like that. Please don't go by me answer by the way... do your own research. I came upon info that reffered to food allergies, ones that made dogs sick at their stomach.... think about it if you ate a food and it made you sick, then you ate it again and it made you sick, then you ate it a couple more times and it made you sick wouldn't you stop eating the food? That really made since to me. Maybe if it was all you were offered ( like the dog) and you were STARVING you would eat it. I for a long time thought my dog did not need much food and was just a very picky eater... I tried many brands of premium dog food wellness, eagle pack, natural balance, evo, the list goes on and on. And after a few weeks on each one my yorkie reverted back to the same pattern (my little maltese bless her will eat anything). I would toss more kibble and canned food in the the trash than Dax ate... literally. After much research and trying pracitcally everything else I decided to try raw feeding. I have never looked back lol. Once again I urge you do not change your dogs food based on my or anyone elses opinion. Do the research. In my case my research told me that this is the most natural way of feeding no preservatives or fillers (no fillers mean less poop and less gas). The raw alternative includes bone (only uncooked bone is healthy for your dog, cooked is brittle and dangerous) which cleans the teeth, and the best proof for me is that both dogs clean their bowls every meal (I still watch them eat because I love to see them go crazy with their food)... they have glossy shiny coats, clean teeth, fresh breath, less eye tearing and other allergy symptoms, they even smell less doggy (for lack of a better word). I currently feed them Natures Variety ( it is made by Prairie) Medallions (little one oz chunks) they get two, two times per day. I at first thought it was expensive but it averages a little over 1.00 a day for an 8-10 lb dog and when I think of how much kibble I threw away I was sold. They even pee less because they get some of their water from the food so they drink less. Please do your research before you consider this but at least see it as another alternative. If you have any questions feel free to pm me and I will be glad to give you any answers I can. There are also many others on this forum who feed the same or similar foods. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Well I know some days, Nolee will eat only once a day. He usually eats 2 times a day. However, he has not gone without eating at all. I was told sometimes they are like toddlers, will eat alot one day and nothing the next. As long as he is not losing weight, I am not concerned.

| My Cairn Terrier eats the same way.(and always has) He weighs 16lbs. and is 12 years old. Other than regular checkups, he has never had to go to the vet! He is still just as spry as a puppy!

| Baxter never gets sick from his food and will eat it like crazy if I stuff it in his kong. I think he is just weird. He isn't losing weight either. I think we are going to stick with Chicken Soup as other foods do make him have diarrhea. |

| Same goes with Cassi... She's now a little over 9 months and weighs 3.8 lbs. I feed her twice a day and occassionally she would eat the whole thing as if she's starved and then other times she would eat a little and then walk away. I just switched her over to Canidae and mixed it with wet Ceasar food. Eventually, I'm going to switch the wet food to Wellness. I think I'll keep her on this diet as long as she's not losing weight and is looking healthy. She's very active and loves to play all the time.
