| Mushy poos - canned dog food? Does canned dog food tend to make some dogs have mushy poos? Seems like no matter what kind I've tried....and I've tried them all....my 6 month old starts getting really mushy poos. Right now I use Natural Balance. I also cook for them (rice, chicken, carrots and fish oil) and mix a little canned in it because both of their poos were getting a little hard on just the cooked. For 3 days now I've been mixing in the canned with the cooked and her poos are starting to get mushy again. It doesn't seem to bother the other one. He's 9 months old. Are there some dogs who just can't tolerate canned dog food? This is a problem because my dogs HATE crunchies! I have to mix crunchies with cottage cheese just so they will eat them. (I do this for their breakfast so that they are getting nutrients and cleaning their teeth.) Feeding is starting to be a problem in my house! HELP!!!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Are you balancing their calcium-phos. ratio - bc if not, this could be extremely detrimental to their health - and probably a good reason why you're seeing mushy poos too. I think mushy poos are caused by several reasons, and not just canned food per se. You really have to look at the whole diet, ingredient senstivities and the individual dog.

I agree. You have to add the proper supplements with homecooking or they will have vitamin deficiencies. I'd suggest consulting a nutritionist. She can develop a diet specifically for them and address any digestive problems. | |

| Yes, I add fish oil, a daily vitamin PLUS they get natural balance crunchies and canned dog food added to the home cooking. Sooooooo.....back to the original problem. Can canned dog food give some dogs mushy poos?????????

it gives mine mushy poo! i would not reccommend canned foods. think about what ingredients in them makes their shelf-life so long? i don't think anyone or anything should be consuming such. i am glad to see that you are supplementing... look at your ratios and make sure they are correct... even being slightly off can cause runny stools.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I also still think it's the calcium-phosphorous ratio. Giving a daily vitamin and fish oil does not balance the ratio for a homecooked diet.
